MIRI: The newly set up Ship Simulator Centre of the Sealestial Marine Seafarer Training Centre (Seamaster) created many firsts for Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah auguring well for the highly demanded skills in the oil and gas industry worldwide.

Its general manager Captain Kenneth Khoo said Seamaster has the first Offshore Vessel aft bridge simulator in Malaysia while its Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) Training Centre is the first in East Malaysia and the second in Malaysia.

“Our Engine Room Simulator (ERS) is the first in Miri and second in East Malaysia while the Full Mission Bridge Simulator is the first in Miri and second in Sarawak.

These modern facilities enable various marine trainings to be conducted locally to service the ever growing marine, ports and shipping industry in the island of Borneo and the surrounding areas,” he said.

Khoo was speaking to The Borneo Post and Utusan Borneo reporters yesterday after the launch of the centre by the Minister of Infrastructure Development and Communication Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong.

Also present were the Director of Marine Department Dickson Dollah, and Miri Port Board member Captain Bernard Idit.

Khoo said that the RM1.5 million simulator centre with technology from India caters for short term courses benefitting locals and also those from Sabah, Semenanjung Malaysia, and even Brunei.

It can accommodate up to 30 simulator-based training students at any one time, covering three different courses simultaneously.

Among the courses are Risk Management & Incident Investigation Masterclass (RM & II), Shipboard Safety Officer (SBSO),

Master’s Navigational Audit (MNA), Offshore Ship Handling Training (OSH) and Bridge Resource Management (BRM).

Sealestial Marine is ISO 9001 Quality Management System certified organisation and is the operator and manager for approved Maritime Training Institute by the Malaysian Marine Department.
