KUALA LUMPUR: The RM700 million-worth new air traffic control centre project is expected to commence this August with a completion duration of 38 months, said Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Aziz Kaprawi.

He said the government was in the process of moving the Kuala Lumpur Flight Information Region’s (KL FIR) Air Traffic Control Operations from the existing Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre (KL ATCC) in Subang, to the new green field site next to the KL International Airport (KLIA).

He said the ongoing open tender to design, supply, install, integrate, test and commission the Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) system for this project would close on June 1.

“The new ATM system, when commissioned, will be one of the most advanced systems with state of the art operational and safety features designed with human factor considerations,” he said in his opening speech of The 9th D-8 Meeting of Directors General and Expert Working Group in Civil Aviation here, yesterday.

He added that the system would also have the capability to cater for the forecasted growth of air traffic operating in the KL FIR up to the year 2028 and beyond.

In the 2014 Budget, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the government would invest RM700 million for the construction of a new air traffic control management centre. — Bernama
