MIRI: Members of the public are welcomed to Permaisuri Imperial City Mall on May 17 at 12 noon to witness and support the annual fund-raising event held by Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS).

A press statement issued yesterday said pledge cards are still available at the reception counter of Somerset Hotel, Jeans outlets at Bintang Megamall and Boulevard Shopping Mall, or at YFS Concept Store at Permaisuri Imperial City Mall.

For those who have started to raise funds, but still wish to continue, may return the pledge cards and book their shaving slot on Go Bald Day itself on May 17 starting from 10.30am at Permaisuri Imperial City Mall.

And those who wish to contribute but do not know how, can either pick up a pledge card today or come over to the venue on the event day itself and register on the spot to go bald,, or they may just contribute by raising funds without going bald.

First launched in 2009, Go Bald is the largest and the first head-shaving charity event in Sarawak and 2015 is the seventh consecutive year. It is an event for people to support children who are battling with cancer.

This year, SCCS intends to raise RM1.5 million for the setup of a new transit home in Miri, to cover their operational cost, and to improve their support services.

Childhood cancer is now the leading cause of death among children and adolescents in many countries. In some countries, deaths due to childhood cancer are more than the combined deaths from other types of childhood illnesses. In Sarawak, a child is diagnosed with cancer every 5 days.

Go Bald received an overwhelming respond previously in Sri Aman, Kuching and Sibu with a total of more than 700 heads shaved and more than RM 550,000 collected.

For Bintulu, Go Bald will kick off at Parkcity Everly Hotel on May 24.

Prior to the main event, two satellite shaves were held respectively in Curtin University and IBS College with a total of 50 heads shaved and almost RM9,000 collected from both institutions.

Go Bald Miri 2015 is organised by Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society and supported by Village Sound System, AD Jeans, YFS Fashion Chain Store, Cahya Mata Sarawak, DK Photographer, and P&J Salon. Other sponsors are Perfect Food Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, TLS Marketing, Hair Bar, Tarra, 249 Store and Aissa Beauty Life. T
