SERIAN: Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem pledged a RM50,000 grant for the St Theresa’s Parish Council at a Christmas cum year-end fellowship dinner recently.
Riot, who was not present at the function, conveyed the message to chairman of the council, Dennis Sung, prior to the dinner held at SJK Chung Hua Serian’s multi-purpose hall on Dec 27.
A media statement yesterday quoted Rector Rev Fr Paul Herry as thanking people for their strong support for all activities of the parish.
He also called for continued support and co-operation for all council projects and activities.
Sung thanked Riot, Infrastructure Development and Communications Minister Dato Sri Michael Manyin and those who had helped the Parish Council to implement projects and activities.
He also thanked Serian District police chief DSP Chung Aik Peng for his presence as well as his men for the security and traffic control during the recent Christmas parade.
For the new year, Sung called for support to the Parish Council’s plan to build a belfry tower and to extend the St Veronica Chapel. He also hoped that all would continue assisting in kind to improve or upgrade needy outstation chapels and other beneficial activities.
“Alone, we can do so little. Together, we can do so much,” Sung said.
