MIRI: Special rebates will be given to SPM and STPM school leavers who enrol on-the-spot with Fajar International College (FIC) during Miri Trade Fair 5 (Mitraf 5) being held at Bintang Megamall from Nov 6 to 9.

FIC students in Orang Ulu costume strike up a pose in front of the college.

To find out more about higher education opportunities at FIC, visit the fair where course counsellors will give professional guidance and advice.

A counter has been set up on the first floor (new wing area) of the mall and students are urged to bring along their relevant documents like SPM results and identity cards to enrol on-the-spot.

FIC is the first in the region to offer the Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health (DipOSH), the only one in the region to gain recognition and approval from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Malaysia and the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, United Kingdom (IOSH-UK) at the same time, besides gaining full accreditation from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

Thus FIC’s DipOSH graduates, upon gaining three years of working experience, can apply for the Green Book from DOSH and register as Safety and Health Officers (SHO) for international recognition.

DipOSH graduates are highly sought by the private and government sectors.

In the private sector, they are in demand in industries like oil and gas, construction, manufacturing, plantations, hospitality and so on.

In the government sector, they can join any government agencies or regulatory bodies where the safety and health of workers are of primary concern.

Many graduates are employed as consultants and lecturers in the safety and health field. Simply put, safety and health is a rapidly expanding field which provides its graduates demanding and growing employment opportunities, especially in the oil and gas industry.

FIC has obtained an advanced standing with Middlesex University, London in the UK for students wishing to continue their studies to degree level. This arrangement opens the pathway to the final year degree programme for substantial savings in cost and time.

For students who wish to enter the business and management field, FIC’s Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) will provide them with the fundamental aspects to pursue their aspirations.

Graduates of DBS are given the same recognition as Diploma holders graduating from local public institutions of higher learning under the government employment scheme by the Public Service Commission (JPA).

Since DBS is fully accredited by MQA, graduates can apply for direct entry into degree programmes at local public universities. Internationally, our DBS is recognised as equivalent to the second or even third year bachelor degree by some selected and reputable universities overseas.

The Diploma in Accountancy (DIA) which is also fully accredited by MQA is suitable for students who want to build accounting as a career path.

This programme is uniquely designed for students to obtain three academic qualifications upon completing the diploma namely they will get Diploma in Accountancy; Certified Accounting Technician (CAT); and Association of International Accountants (AIA), UK.

The AIA is a professional qualification recognised by the Malaysian Government as equivalent to an Honours degree.

The above qualifications are possible as students can take the CAT and AIA examinations at different stages during a DIA programme.

To date, FIC remains the only centre for both the Paper-Based Examinations (PBE) and Computer-Based Examinations (CBE) approved by the MOE and ACCA.

The Diploma in Human Resources Management (DHRM) is another popular programme at FIC that covers all the basic, necessary and challenging modules in the field of human resource management such as Business Ethics, Occupational Safety and Health, Recruitment and Selection, Labour Law and many more.

This two-and-a-half year programme will equip students with knowledge and skills in carrying out human resource functions like staffing needs, recruiting, training, dealing with performance issues, providing direction for staff, and ensuring personnel and management practice conform to local and international regulations.

In terms of financial aid, students who enroll for diploma programmes are eligible to apply for PTPTN loans or from other agencies, besides EPF withdrawal.
