KUCHING: A total of 1,144 applicants were offered places to further their studies at diploma level at Kuching Polytechnic, Jalan Matang here for the semester beginning June 16.

Of that number, 293 will take disciplines in mechanical engineering, 203 civil engineering and diploma in information technology, 161 electric and electronic engineering, 120 accountancy, 84 petrochemical processing and 80 diploma in business studies.

Kuching Polytechnic Students’ Affairs Department officer-in-charge of the intake unit Abdullah Latep said in a press statement that 1,120 SPM holders were accepted by the institution compared to 1,040 during a similar intake last year.

“We have to open up an extra class each for civil and mechanical engineering and information technology (programming) programmes to cater to the increasing number of students,” he said, adding that Kuching Polytechnic had become more popular as well as a preferred institution among SPM holders.

Abdullah also said diploma programmes for electric and electronic engineering has been reintroduced due to encouraging applications with 120 students admitted.

Those who have received their offer letters are advised to submit their acceptance letters to the Students’ Affairs Department within two weeks from the date the letter was issued.

On a related matter, Abdullah said those who want to register online can do so from June 2 to 14.

“However, students have to pay RM600 for registration and relevant fees at the Islamic Bank at least one day prior to registration,” he noted.
