KBU’s innovation day is a platform where students can rub shoulders with potential employers.

KUCHING: KBU International College’s School of Engineering and Computing will showcase the finest projects of its final-year students on June 6 at its Bandar Utama from 10am to 4pm.

It will be open to the public for the first time since it began two years ago.

This year’s Innovation Day will exhibit 70 projects from the field of BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering, BSc (Hons) Information and Communication Technology and BSc (Hons) Software Engineering.

“The Innovation Day 2014 caters as a platform for students to connect with the industry. It is also a channel for students to rub shoulders with potential employers as we have invited more than 50 well-known companies and higher institutions to participate in the innovation day celebration,” said School of Engineering and Computing head Lye Boon Han in a press statement.

“Some of the highlights of this year’s Innovation Day would be: Mobile-based Distributed Diary System, Mobile-based Traveler Assistant, Sign Language Learning Kit, Open Source User-Friendly Digital Signage and Smart Glove for Android Application. This is evidence that KBU has done a great job in educating leaders of tomorrow. We are, indeed, very proud of their achievements and we want the world to see it,” he added.

Last year, the school encouraged students by presenting RM1,000 each for the best project chosen through 60 per cent of professional assessment and 40 per cent votes.

“We will be doing the same this year. On top of that, we will be organising a seminar on technopreneurship and career talks which will be beneficial for SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) and UEC (Unified Examination Certificate) students.

“So, I would like to take this opportunity to call everyone to come and participate in this exciting event,” said Lye.
