MIRI: This year’s Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) Go Bald 6.0 campaign kicked off with its first satellite shave that saw 36 supporters going bald, including two children who took part in the event hosted by Mega Hotel Miri.
“It was indeed an honour for Mega Hotel to be part of the SCCS campaign and given the opportunity to be first to kick-off the launching event here,” the hotel’s operations manager Javaerlyne John Jutie said at the launch yesterday.
“In fact, this is the hotel’s third consecutive year taking part in this campaign, thus, we are more than pleased to continue the same effort to raise as much funds as possible,” she said, adding that for the whole month of April, the hotel will contribute RM1 for every ‘room night sold’.
Last year, Mega Hotel successfully raised a total of RM10, 000 to the SCCS through the ‘room night sold’, pledge card and donation box collection.
Adding to this, Javaerlyne thanked a local Chinese daily for its support and collaboration to run a promotional project, which encourages readers to pledge RM500 fund or more. Those who able to pledge the amount will be rewarded with a SCCS t-shirt and a free Instax mini camera.
Known for its active role in corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes, Javaerlyne revealed that apart from participating in the SCCS Go Bald campaign, Mega Hotel has listed nine other charitable organisations under the hotel’s CSR programme.
They are MRC Sunflower Centre, MRC Kidney Dialysis Centre, Miri Home for The Aged, Persatuan Penyayang Kanak-kanak Istimewa, Sekolah Tunas Bakti, Miri Autistic Association, Rumah Anak-anak Kesayangan Kami, Community-based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) and Peryatim.
Also present were SCCS secretary and outstation Liaison Jocelyn Hee, organising chairperson for Go Bald 6.0 Shirley Ariffin and Mega’s communication manager Jenny Chen.
After the shaving session, every supporter was given a free SCCS t-shirt and an Instax photo of themselves.
Meanwhile, in a bid to support the noble cause, the hotel’s communication manager Jenny Chen has to shed her locks next year.
