The Emergency and Disaster Information Service (EDIS) provides up to date information on significant emergencies and disasters around the globe. Run by the Hungarian National Association of Radio Distress-Signalling and Infocommunications (RSOE) the service is a crucial resource to travelers everywhere, whether they overlanders, backpackers, or people on a family holiday. The RSOE monitors numerous local and national level emergency systems in addition to almost 1000 worldwide internet press publications to provide a real time look at the emergencies the world is facing as we speak.
For several reasons, this can be a useful tool for the overland traveler, who often needs to be more self sufficient than others. A simple look at the map above will not only tell you any significant world events, but also emergencies in areas that you may need to drive through, whether it be a wildfire in Australia, an epidemic in Uganda, or an earthquake in Chile.
