Q: Dear 100 Hour Board,

I can go online and research this, and I will, but I want more opinions.....

Convertible car seats for Newborns

We used an Eddie Baur Convertible car seat with our first, from the time she was a newborn. We did it to save money (not buying an infant carrier plus a big kid one). I didn't like the Eddie Baur one because, although it said it was for infants, we found we had to use extra stuff to prop our baby up and keep her comfortable. So, not going with Eddie Baur again.

What are the best convertible car seats for infants? Ones that your infant is actually comfortable and sitting correctly in?

-Thanks

Dear Reader,

Considering I am a single college student with no experience in this area, I decided to refer to my siblings who actually have kids.

As it turns out, neither my sister or sister in law have used convertible car seats for newborns. My sister in law just used an infant car seat for her newborns, and later upgraded to a convertible toddler car seat. My sister got a rear facing only car seat for her daughter as a newborn because it could snap in and out of the base they left in the car, and then they could carry her around in her car seat. This type of car seat is an evenflo. When her baby got older, she also got a convertible toddler seat. Concerning this, my sister said, "I thought the bucket seats were super awesome for the first few months, and I felt better about how reclined/comfortable it seemed, plus ours came with a stroller, but if [you] don't have enough money to buy a new convertible car seat in a few months, I'm sure [you're] baby will be fine."

Both my sister in law and sister got Graco for the convertible toddler seats, and while they're happy with it, they think they'd be happy with any brand. My sister pointed out that no matter which brand you get, it will have to meet all the same safety requirements, so should be fine for your kid.

~Anathema, with special thanks to her awesome older sister
