In most industries, there are lots of websites and publications people working within that space can visit to find news on trends, strategies, and just in general hear about the next big thing. I’ve noticed that this is hard to come by when talking about blogging, particuarly lifestyle blogging. Today we’re sharing a few places we go to find news in our niche, including updates about the social media world too. This list is a major work in progress, so we’d love to see where else you find your blogging news too!

Social Media

Buffer + Sprout. A lot of people tend to ignore the business blogs of services they use, such as social media management services like Buffer + Sprout. But I’ve found blogs like this to be great at informing me of updates + news in social media, such as when Instagram comes out with a crazy new update (hi, stories!) or when Instagram became a part of Facebook. While many of us use these services primarily for scheduling, they also have powerful insights, so you really are getting an insider’s perspective.

Mashable. Mashable has tons of tech, biz, and blogging news in frequent, easy to digest pieces. Personally I think following all of Mashable’s articles would be super overwhelming, but I like to scroll through the social media + parts of the biz section every now and then.

Social Media Examiner. If your day job is in marketing, you probably know this website, and if you’re more of a hobby blogger, you might be wondering why I’m directing you to such a quirky page. Social Media Examiner has, as you might expect, literally all of the latest news in social media, from updates to trend forecasting and more.

Blogging

Create + Cultivate. Did you know that lifestyle blogging’s biggest conference also has a blog? I enjoy this blog because although it does have its own share of lifestyle content and advice, they also share insider secrets and insights from their events. Check out the advice category for more concrete tips.

Facebook Groups. This goes for social media too, but Facebook groups are a great way to stay in the loop when it comes to blog life. I’m pretty selective about the ones I join—if I’m not getting anything out of, it’s just cluttering my feed (you know when you scroll through for five minutes and don’t even know what you’ve just looked at?). We suggest seeing if your fave bloggers have created groups, and if not—shoot them an email to ask which ones they’re in! A lot of them are closed groups, so you might have to do some digging.

Creative Market. For the design side of blogging, check out Creative Market’s blog. There’s a lot of fun “fluffier” pieces like cute DIYs, but there’s also great resources for the blogger looking to DIY her design. Whether it’s something like typography news or tips for choosing fonts, you can learn a lot about digital media by scrolling through their archives.

WordPress. Whether you use WordPress like we do, Squarespace, or even blogger, you might want to bookmark their blogs or sign up for their newsletters. This helps a ton of there are issues you need to be aware of to keep your site running. Boring, maybe, but definitely helpful.

To be honest, I don’t consistently read *too* many more websites than this for blogging + social media news. I hear a lot from word of mouth, or just simply by using the platform. Do you guys have go-to sites for getting blog news? Let us know what we should add to this list!
