SIDE EFFECTS BY AWESOMENESSTV AND UNIVERSAL CABLE PRODUCTIONS

Side Effects is a musical drama, co-produced by AwesomenessTV and Universal Cable Productions (UCP), bringing television narrative, music and production values to YouTube. It’s inspired by the phenomenon of millions of people covering songs on YouTube and has launched on the AwesomenessTV channel as part of YouTube’s Music Week. The soundtrack is being distributed by Universal Music Group and is available digitally now. The cast features top YouTube stars and up-and-coming actors. You can view the trailer below:

MUSIC MAKING A DIFFERENCE BIG DAY FUNDRAISING EVENT

Throughout November, charity Musicians Making a Difference (MMAD) is giving Australia’s budding bedroom performers the chance to joing MMAD artists on stage by hosting their own Big Day fundraising event. A Big Day In performance can be held on any day this November, and be anything from an acoustic concert, a battle of the parts, a karaoke competition, the list goes on! Videos of their performance can be uploaded to www.bigdayin.net.au before mid-December with a panel to choose the best performer. Sponsorship from audience members will raise funds for MMAD programs which use music, dance and mentoring to inspire young people who suffer abuse, neglect and disadvantage. All pledges over $5 go in the running to win tickets to a music festival next year as well.

ASOS MAGAZINE DECEMBER

The December issue of the ASOS Magazine is out now and features on half of the English electronic duo AlunaGeorge. Aluna Frances is the cover girl and known for her sweet, high-pitched voice in the duo’s sound, having recently played Listen Out Festival here in Australia. The new issue of Fashion Up is also available to download for free via the iTunes App Store: asos.to/S4Hsxg, a free app that enables you to download the weekly interactive magazine.



BEERTOGRAPHY PHOTOGRAPHY COMPEITION

The Great Australian Beer Festival has just launched its BEERtography Competiion, asking amateur and professional photographers from anywhere in Australia to capture the rising craft beer lifestyle culture in photography fro the chance to win cash prizes. Photographers are invited to capture the beautiful brew in all its creative forms and variations, but the catch is there can be no commercial branding of any kind. There’s a new team at Peppers Manor House in the Southern Highlands. MAN ABOUT THE HOUSE – COMEDIAN TIME ROSS

On Saturday November 17, award-winning comedian and broadcaster Tim Ross will present his stand-up show at the Boyd Education Centre in Riversdale on the South Coast of NSW. The comedy show has previously been staged in a host of iconic mid-century houses in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland, with the show as much about the venue as the comedy. The public can also stay in the unique cabin-style accommodation at the venue for the first time. Tickets are $40, with accommodation at $300.

THE TOURISM INDUSTRY COUNCIL NSW 2013 YOUNG ACHIEVER AWARD

The Tourism Industry Council NSW has announced the full list of finalists for the 2013 Young Achiever Award, part of the NSW Tourism Awards. Finalists include Emma Cao of Destination Tweed; Belinda Hams, Eclipse Caravans; Linda Tillman, Tilma Group; and Anthea Hammon, Scenic World Blue Mountains. The award celebrates contributions to the tourism industry of individuals 35 and under. The winner will be announced at the 2013 NSW Tourism Awards Gala Ceremony on Thursday 28 November.

Fresh Catering’s Cornerstone Bar & Food at Carriageworks have teamed up with local Newtown brewer Young Henrys for a pizza and beer promotion running every Thursday from 5pm until the end of November. RED LANTERN ON RILEY ‘SHRINK MY SERVE’ (Sydney)

Red Lanter on Riley in Darlinghurst have introduced a new lunch service called Shrink My Serve. They’re now offering main dishes at half the size and half the price for lunch. It’s perfect for those watching spending, or if you want to enjoy more dishes in one sitting. Shrink my Serve dishes range from $14 - $19.50, with options such as Vjt Sot Man Gung Keo, duck served with plum sauce and candied ginger; Ca Kho, pan fried NZ King Salmon in a caramel, chilli and black pepper sauce; or Bo Luc Lac, grass fed Black Angus beef wok tossed with garlic, sesame and black pepper.

THE SPICE CELLAR’S 2ND BIRTHDAY (Sydney)

On Thursday 21st November, The Spice Cellar will celebrate their 2nd Birthday Harajuku Neon style. There’s a strict rule of dressing up, no effort, no entry. TIME OUT – SYDNEY’S SIXTH ANNUAL BAR AWARDS

Sydney’s sixth annual Time Out Sydney Bar Awards has announced this year’s nominees. The award will be held at The Island Bar at Cockatoo Island on Sunday 1 December from 1-6pm and celebrate the best of Sydney’s bar scene. The annual Time Out Sydney Bar Guide will also be launched at the event. There are 13 awards this year, including Best Bartender, Best Neighbourhood Bar, best Pub, Best Bar Food and Bar of the Year. JAM GALLERY AND SPRING STREET SOCIAL (Sydney)

Two brand new adjoining venues have opened up at Bondi Junction, small bar and restaurant Spring Street Social and multi-purpose music venue, gallery, bar and eatery Jam Gallery. Spring Street Social is inspired by the golden age of cure-all elixirs and take you back to a time of rustic chemists and homespun apothecaries. The menu has been designed to combine fresh produce and simple comfort in share style plates. Jam Gallery is a custom built venue with a capacity for 400 people, with three bars, three stages, a full commercial kitchen, an over-specced SLS system and a PA system. Live entertainment will take place seven days a week, 8pm til late.

Rushcutters has just opened as part of The Keystone Group in Rushcutters Bay. The new venue is a food hub that offers a multitude of experiences from all day dining to produce markets, workshops and cooking classes. The menu draws inspiration from Northern Europe, with the majority of produce sourced from Head Chef Martin Boetz’s Cooks Co-op in the Hawsbury region near Sydney. Sol Beer will introduce the “Spirit of Mexico” next month in the form of the new Hola Sol Festival Cantina at Sydney’s Hola Sol Mexico Festival. Launching on November 27 as part of the eighth annual Hola Sol Mexico Festival at Paddington’s Chauvel Cinema, the inaugural bar will transport Sydneysiders to Central America. As well as Sol, other authentic Mexican beverages will sponsor the event, including Zapopan Silver Tequila, Don Juan 2 Worm Mezcal and Scorpion Mezcal. Bringing culture, art, music, workshops and talks to the festival, this Sol sponsored Cantina be a stand-along attraction as well as a prelude to watching one of the many films on offer. Fresh Catering have been awarded Best Caterer at a Venue 2013 for the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia’s Rooftop Venues, at the 2013 Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS National Awards for Excellence. The inaugural Fluid Festival at North Ryde’s The Ranch Hotel will showcase a selection of the finest beers, wines and ciders from an array of Aussie producers on Saturday 9th November. FUGII ICECREAM (Canberra)

John Marshall is the genius behind Frugii, a handmade ice cream from Canbera, and he has been experimenting with unique gelato flavours for over fourteen years. He’s made his own vanilla extracrs, nut pastes and bases, and is the first in the world to make commercially available Chocolate Gelato right from the actual cocoa bean. John is currently working on a herbal and paleo range of icecream. The newest project is his ice-cream cheese platter, with blue cheese icecream, parmesan ice cream, quince jelly and port wine sortbet, with other cheese ice cream always being developed. Frugii has market stalls each weekend at the Capital Regional Farmers Markets, Old Bus Depot Markets, and Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets.

BLACKBIRD MARKET FAREWELL (Melbourne)

After four years, Melbourne’s Blackbird Market is leaving on Saturday November 9, making way for indie-design marker Lonely Hunter, which is launching at The Cape Lounge on December 14. Blackbird has been a staple in the Melbourne market scene, one of the city’s first markets to combine both vintage and designer wares. The last day will see up cycled vintage label Romance in June having a huge dress sale, Everything Peppermint bringing their Christmas card collection, and of course a whole heap more.
