$50,000 Grant Applications Open

The Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR) and Carlton Dry have announced that the applications for 2014’s Carlton Dry Global Music Grant are now open.

Established in 2013, the Grant has been created to help fund a trip overseas for an emerging Australian artist or band to boost their profile overseas. Last year’s inaugural grant went to King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard to fund their recent tour of the U.S.

Applications close on September 1st. Entries will be judged by a selected panel of industry experts and the winner announced at the 2014 Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards in October.

Cooking Vinyl Australia Partnership With Razor & Tie

Cooking Vinyl Australia has announced a brand new partnership with New York based independent record label Razor & Tie.

Razor & Tie is one of the largest and most successful independent music labels in North America. The label’s diverse roster includes Yellowcard, All That Remains, Starset, Such Gold and many more.

Stu Harvey, of Cooking Vinyl Australia says of the new partnership, “Razor & Tie have built one of the most impressive rock rosters in the US and we are thrilled to announce this new partnership that will see Cooking Vinyl representing their roster throughout Australia and New Zealand.”

Sing Loud! Competition Winners

Delta Goodrem and Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu have announced the winners of Reconciliation Australia’s Sing Loud! Competition, held for the first time during National Reconciliation Week 2014.

Adelaide singer-songwriter Kylie Kain won the ‘Best Original’ category with her song ‘Stompin’ the Ground.’

The ‘Best Cover’ category was won by 13-year-old Victorian schoolgirl, Jemma Cher with ‘Time To Get Serious’, originally written by Robert Beattie. She plans to donate half of her $1000 prize to an Indigenous organisation and use the other half to further her musical training.

Stoney Roads Awards: Producer Of The Year

Stoney Roads has launched its first ever Dance Music Awards in an effort to crown a Producer of the Year for 2013/14.

The producers nominated have had a release in the last 12 months and represent a current crop of dance and electronic music.

Voting is open now on the Stoney Roads website and ends on the 3rd of August with the official announcement and awards evening on August 6th.

New Music Network Workshop

The New Music Network, in association with the Australian Music Centre, presents a new workshop for prospective entrepreneurs in new and experimental music, including key speakers Andrew Batt-Rawden, John Davis, Claire Edwards, Louis Garrick and Cat Hope.

The full-day workshop aims to provide student and emerging composers, performers, producers and promoters with an introduction to, and a fresh perspective on, the business-side of new music.

It will be held on Saturday 9th of August at 106 Projects Space, Redfern. Registrations are open now, so visit here.

‘Better Get Yourself A Lawyer’

MusicNSW, Arts Law and Sydney TAFE Music have teamed up to present ‘Better Get Yourself A Lawyer!’, an evening of discussion and advice from Australia’s most successful music industry lawyers, representatives and advocates.

Some of the topics that will be covered are management, label and booking contracts, publishing agreements, business structures, booking agents, merch and copyright issues. Speakers include, Jake Stone (MusicNSW Education Officer), Jules Munro (Simpsons Solicitors) Anika Valenti (The Arts Law Centre) and Jonathon Carter (APRA/AMCOS).
