Neil Perry is a culinary icon in Australia, considered a genius in pretty much every foodie circle you can think of. So what happens when this mastermind takes on a very affordable burger joint in Sydney? You can imagine just how popular this one is going to be; it just opened up yesterday. The Burger Project is located at World Square, recalling the classic milk bar and giving it a contemporary twist with options such as the Korean Burger ($8.90) and the classic cheese and bacon burger ($9.50).

Take your taste buds on a self-guided Asian foodie adventure at the Sunnybank $2 Food Trail on November 8 from 12 to 2pm or 6 to 8pm. Since Sunnybank Plaza first opened in 1975 and Sunny Park in 1983, food has always been a strong point. Today, the two shopping centres host over 50 restaurants and cafes offering delicious authentic Asian cuisine. There are so many places to choose from, unless you are a local, it is tricky knowing all the foodie destinations that offer the best and most authentic dishes. Do you want to know where you can you find the best ramen in Brisbane that is as delicious as ordering from an izakaya on the streets of Tokyo? How about the best BBQ meat that all the locals rave about? Or the best Peking duck that celebrity chefs would recommend? To give all the foodie lovers out there a helping hand towards discovering Sunnybank’s huge array of delicious food destinations, Sunnybank Plaza and Sunny Park have joined forces to present a very special $2 per plate self-guided foodie adventure. The Sunnybank $2 Food Trail will give the public a unique opportunity to explore, discover and taste all of Sunnybank’s food offerings in one day - with participating restaurants and outlets offering special $2 tasting menus. Each stop on the suggested Food Trail will offer one or two tasty $2 mini-dishes during a lunch trail from 12 to 2pm and a dinner trail from 6 to 8pm. Chef and restaurateur, Matt Moran, is set to bring his much-admired CHISWICK restaurant into the heart of Sydney, a short five-minute stroll from Macquarie Street, at the Art Gallery of NSW with CHISWICK at the Gallery launching October 25. As with the popular Woollahra outpost, CHISWICK at the Gallery, a 125-seat restaurant at the eastern end of the Entrance Court with striking views across the Royal Botanic Gardens to Sydney Harbour, will feature the best produce and drinks mostly from regional NSW including lamb from Matt’s own farm. CHISWICK at the Gallery’s menu takes cues from its Woollahra sibling, but also has its own unique personality crafted by head chef, Laura Baratto. Laura, who has worked in both ARIA and CHISWICK kitchens for eight years, has pulled together a menu perfect for sharing among groups, with a focus, this season, on the best spring can deliver. Shared dishes including roast chicken with cos, sugar snaps and lemon, or Moran’s family lamb shoulder with smoked eggplant and mint salsa, are carefully crafted with fresh, elegant simplicity. Desserts such as watermelon, strawberries and strawberry ice-cream are a fitting finale. Diners can also choose to sit at the bar or communal table for a glass of wine and a light bite. Weekend brunches will also kick-off later in the year. For more information visit www.chiswickrestaurant.com.au/gallery/news-and-events

In support of humane food production, the South Melbourne Market and their traders will ban the sale of all cages eggs with the 'We Care about the Chicken and the Egg' campaign. From December 1st, the South Melbourne Market traders will not be selling eggs that have been sources from hens housed in cages (this includes any eggs used in restaurants and cafés).

Additionally, traders will be required to clearly label ‘bird densities’ as well as identify products as barn-laid, free-range or organic. Customers will therefore be informed to make their purchase decision based on price; category including barn-laid, free-range and organic; and hen stocking densities. While the concept of ‘bird density’ may yet be unknown to some shoppers, it has been identified by the Market as one of the ways to convey to customers the potential quality of free-range systems.
