You can do amazing things with resin. I made this faux rose quartz resin heart pendant for a collaborative showcase organized by resin artist Carmi Cimicata. This was Carmi’s third annual special resin showcase. I was delighted to be included.

Carmi supplied the heart bezels. That was so sweet of her. It also assures that all the bezels are identical. But I’m sure no two resin heart pendants in the showcase will be the same!

I was a bit dismayed when the bezels arrived and I saw how shallow they were. I didn’t dare attempt to dome them high enough to embed pretty objects since I’m rather new to resin crafting.

So I settled on creating faux rose quartz to fill the resin heart pendant. Then I wire-wrapped the pendant to add some pizazz.

Faux Rose Quartz Resin Heart Pendant Directions

Follow package directions to mix clear epoxy in a measuring cup. The 1:1 ratio must be precise or the resin won’t cure properly.

Divide resin into two smaller disposable cups. Mix a very small amount – just a drop or two – of magenta silk color into one cup to create the pale transparent pink color of rose quartz.

Drizzle Pearl Effect (white) acrylic paint into the second cup and mix to create a pearly opaque white.

Cut a small pile of tiny Mylar flakes – the smaller the better.

Pour transparent pink resin almost to the top of the heart bezel. Make sure the resin levels out perfectly. Note the scrap of cardstock I used to level the heart on the left.

Use toothpick to drizzle opaque pearl resin into bezel and swirl it through until you like the veined effect.

Scatter tiny pieces of gold Mylar over the epoxy and push them below the surface with a toothpick.

Some will float up again. Just keep pushing them down until the resin firms enough to trap them.

It’s difficult to photograph reflective objects. Below is the best shot I got of the lovely rose quartz effect.

It’s hard to resist testing a resin piece to see if it’s hard. If there’s any tackiness left, tapping ever so lightly leaves unsightly and very obvious fingerprints, so resist the urge!

Do you see the bit of spillover in the picture above? It broke off easily when the resin heart pendant was cured. While curing I used that section to test.

Let cure overnight. Mix another batch of ClearCast. Let it set up until very thick. Drizzle resin over the bezel to create a dome. Use a toothpick as needed to spread the dome clear to the edge of the bezel. Let cure 72 hours.
