Whether you live in a cozy condo, an attractive apartment or a huge home, chances are good that there are several nagging little issues that you would like to fix.

Fortunately, there are dozens of everyday problems that are pretty simple to fix on your own. All that you need are a few common products, a few minutes and a can-do attitude.

Problem: The Squeaky Floor

If you are going nuts with the constant squeaking that you hear every time you walk across the floor, there is a quick and easy solution.

Real Simple suggests sprinkling a bit of talcum powder right on top of the squeaky spots and use a broom to work it into the cracks of the floor. Remove any excess.

Problem: The Scratched Wooden Coffee Table

Although you try to keep your wooden furniture looking nice, scratches can be inevitable.

Whether it’s your favorite coffee table that used to belong to your grandma or your dresser, entertainment center or desk, there is an easy way to hide any unsightly scratches. Just take a nut – it can be an almond, peanut, walnut or whatever you like – and cut it in half to expose the inside of the nutmeat.

Then rub the cut nut over the scratch. The natural oils from the nut will work their way into the blemish and help to lighten the scratch marks.

Problem: The Giant Pile of Backpacks on the Floor

If you have kids, you are probably well-aware of the way a few backpacks on the floor have a way of looking like a giant mountain of mess.

In order to keep everything off the floor and still easy to access, Babble suggests using a wreath hanger.

A wreath hanger is typically strong enough to handle several backpacks and there might also be space for sports bags and other strappy items.

Problem: The Dusty Chandelier

Chandeliers can look really pretty but all of those lovely glass baubles tend to get covered with dust really quickly.

In order to clean the chandelier and have it sparkly again, turn it off and let it cool and then put on a pair of cotton gloves.

Use one that is dry and one that you spray with your favorite glass cleaner. Use your glass cleaner glove to grasp and clean each piece of the light and then follow up with the dry glove to shine it up.

Problem: The Sunglasses That Have Seen Better Days

Despite your best intentions, sunglasses can also end up full of scratches. This can be distressing, especially if you spent a pretty penny for an extra nice brand like Ray Ban or Oakley.

Instead of heading to the mall to replace your shades, keep some replacement lenses on hand and fix them yourself.

For example, Revant Optics offers replacement lenses for Oakley and Ray Ban frames. Simply pop the scratched lenses out, put the new ones in, polish the frames and you are good to go with shades that look brand new.

Problem: The Broken Light Bulb

There is nothing worse than changing a light bulb only to have it break off in your hand, leaving glass shards and the metal base in the lamp.

To safely and easily remove the broken portion from the lamp, head to your kitchen and grab a raw potato.

Instructables recommends unplugging the lamp and then pushing the potato onto the socket. Then twist the potato like you were unscrewing a light bulb and voila – broken pieces of glass and sharp metal base will come right out of the socket, safely tucked into the potato.
