While these casting choices are all included in my larger Characters Who Should Appear in the Arrowverse editorial, I was asked to make smaller more show-specific editorials that wouldn’t be as long nor tedious to scroll through.
Purely based on speculation and hope, below I will give a list of “Flash Universe”, “Green Arrow Universe” , and general “DC Universe” characters that I would like to see appear on Legends of Tomorrow in the future. Along with said characters I will be including casting choices, and potential storylines that each character could be utilized for/in. I will not be listing any big-name heroes, as their appearances are less likely.
HEROES
Jefferson Pierce aka Black Lightning:
With Static Shock tied up in a web-series what better hero to introduce than Black Lightning? While Virgil Hawkins/Static Shock resonates with a younger audience the inclusion of Jefferson Pierce and a mention of/knowledge of his full family brings a different element to The Flash. While the show is focused on family, it has yet to entertain the idea of what if the leader of the family were to become something more than just say, a father (what if Joe was the Flash and Barry/Iris were side characters). , As for story, I think bringing in elements of John Henry Iron’s storyline could be very interesting seeing as both Irons and Pierce’s stories are very family-driven. Pierce could potentially be a renown scientist from another city – therefore his story isn’t tied to him and his family moving from Central City – who is saved by The Flash on a visit to Central City. After telling The Flash he “owes his life to him” The Flash tells him that he should make it count, and so, Pierce a journey to becoming a hero of his own via science. Whilst experimenting with an electronically charged suit – think Spider-Man’s Shocker – the suit overloads and Pierce wakes up to realize his body is similarly charged with electricity. This not only successfully introduces Black Lighting but also introduces someone who can delve into DC comics famous metagene, which has been hinted at since the pilot episode of The Flash.

Quick Question, have you seen The Originals? If you haven’t seen The Originals, then I suggest you do; if not for story, watch to see Davis’ performance as an actor. Davis’ acting ability is quite large in range, and his natural “soothing/fatherly” position as an actor are quite interesting to watch.

More on Jefferson Pierce
Patrick “Eel” O’Brian aka Plastic-Man:
While I realize that Ralph Dibny (aka Elongated Man) was mentioned in Episode 1×07 of The Flash as a casualty of the particle accelerator, I also think he should stay as such seeing as both Arrow and The Flash overuse the “not dead” trope. On the other hand, Plastic-Man could easily be twisted to include some of the best of both character’s features or, make O’Brian and Dibny partners in crime prior to the accelerator going off, with Dibny dying the night of the explosion and O’Brian being blessed with his powers and a second chance (much like Plastic-Man’s comic book origin). Rather than seeing the clichéd villain to hero or vice versa transformation, we get insight into someone who was a petty thief who was blessed with a second chance. As for why I prefer Plastic-Man over Elongated-Man, the answer is quite simple. Plas’ is funnier, more interesting, and more powerful. The average comic reader may not know this but:
Plas can truly change shape, EM simply stretches and bends. Ex: Plas could shape out a hole in his middle to form a true doughnut shape.
Making him a more interesting (and less Mr. Fantastic-like) character.

This is the man who played Crazy Steve on Drake and Josh, and Spencer Shay on iCarly, need I say more as to why he would be perfect to play Plastic-Man?

More on Patrick “Eel” O’Brian
Ralph Dibny aka Elongated Man:
Seeing as 2×01 of The Flash, The Man of Saved Central City, introduced (albeit a dead version) of Albert Rothstein, the list given by Harrison Wellsobard in the beginning of The Flash’s first season is more than in question. Not only was Rothstein’s name on the list, but – as aforementioned – he was apparently (actually) killed in 2×01, and then when further questions about him were asked, it was revealed that the character wasn’t even in Central City when the accelerator went off. All this being said, if Dibny were to be introduced I would hope it was in a way similar to Plastic-Man’s with Dibny surviving and not O’Brein.
Played By: Topher Grace
Topher Grace? The guy who “ruined” Spiderman 3? Well…no. Grace is a more than capable actor who bounces between both TV and movie appearances. Not only that but he has sported orange hair in a few of his roles and so I would doubt he would mind returning to the look for this outing.

More on Ralph Dibny
Rex Mason aka Metamorpho:
Although Simon Stagg, a key player in Metamorpho’s origin, met his untimely demise in The Flash’s first season, that doesn’t mean we still can’t get Metamorpho on The Flash. Ideally he would be a minor hero and if you look at my casting below you’ll know why, a minor character whose actor simply nods to his previous involvement in the superhero universe as The Man of Steel himself. Rex Mason could have quite easily have become Metamorpho long before Simon Stagg met his end, much like Ronnie Raymond became Firestorm, but wasn’t discovered for nearly a year, in The Flash’s first season. That, or Rex could simply be in hiding or elsewhere due to his displeasure with how he appears, which is a common issue with the character after he initially transforms.
Played By: Tom Welling
Welling himself has said he’s been typecast as nothing more than Clark Kent at this point, and for those who don’t know he did play Kent for 10 years on WB’s Smallville. While Welling isn’t the greatest of actors, the role of the “heartbroken creature” so-to-speak is something he pulled of quite well when playing a very humanized version of Bizarro on Smallville.

Buddy Baker aka Animal Man:
Much like Vixen, who has now gotten her own animated Arrowverse spinoff, Animal Man has an interesting – almost magical – connection to his powers. Again, much like Vixen, Animal Man could be used as an excellent middle ground between barely magical characters, and magic based characters. Given that Arrow’s fourth season has completely introduced magic to the realm of possibility, having a character who derives his powers from the life force of animals wouldn’t be too far fetched.

If you haven’t seen Spencer playing Dr. Robert Chase on the now complete series known as House, you’re missing something. Despite Hugh Laurie’s captivating performance as House himself, Chase is among one of the very few other Doctors who is not only masterfully acted, but also delivered by an actor who is versed in delivering a good performance.

Rex or Rick Tyler a.k.a Hourman:
While both Rick and Rex Tyler have interesting backstories, it’s how well this character fits into the already existing Arrowverse that puts him at the top of my wish-list. Not only was there – at one point – an Hourman TV Series in development, but the writers could quite easily tie Hourman’s Miraclo-based power drug into Mirakuru, the miracle based power drug that Arrow already introduced in it’s second season. On top of that Rex Tyler, the first Hourman, was killed in a battle against a time-traveling villain, a feat that could easily be tied into the first season of Legends of Tomorrow. Imagine a final battle with a villain taking place in the past and the Legends get help from the first Hourman, Rex Tyler, who dies and we see a shot of his young son, and then in Season 2 we meet his son again, now 15/20 years later, who becomes the new Hourman. If this were the case, the shows second season could quite seamlessly tell us Rick’s origin, in a pretty true-to-comic form as it (the origin) has been described as follows:
Rick Tyler struggled for a while before accepting his role as the son of the original Hourman. It hasn’t been an easy road– he’s endured addiction to the Miraclo drug that increases his strength and endurance, and nearly died from a strange disease. Now, after mastering the drug, he uses a special hourglass that enables him to see one hour into the future.

Seeing as I’ve written and mock-cast a Green Lantern pilot that takes place in the Arrowverse, AND I’m a big fan of Nightwing, I’ve certainly done my research on McQueen and I would say I’m more than familiar with his body of work and him as an actor/person in general. That being said, this is one of the few characters that The Vampire Diaries alum could certainly play if he were to be introduced Legends of Tomorrow.

More on Rex Tyler, More on Rick Tyler
Grant Emerson aka Damage:
At this point it seems the list delivered by “Doctor Wells” in The Flash’s first season – the last of people who had died during the accelerator explosion – was nothing more than a ploy. Not only was one member on the list, Albert Rothstein, not killed by the Particle Accelerator explosion, he wasn’t even in Central City at the time (as revealed in 2×01 of The Flash). Assuming that the list as a whole is untrustworthy bringing such a volatile character to the second Legends team would serve them well. Interestingly, Grant also has common background with the villain of Legends of Tomorrow’s first season, Vandal Savage, as in the comics:
He learned that Vandal Savage was involved in an experiment at Symbolix called Project: Telemachus, where he took DNA samples he had collected from various superheroes and injected them into a fitting vessel: Grant.
Grant was injected with all of this DNA as a child, and as a result, his powers were created. Again, Legends of Tomorrow could EASILY lay the groundwork for this storyline if they so chose, all it would take is a nod to Project: Telemachus, and a scene where Vandal, who has collected the DNA of heroes, injects it into a child; cut to Season 2 and we meet this child as an adult, Grant Emerson. Damages potential as a character are endless, seeing as his arrogant nature and cockiness are counterbalanced by his powers being so volatile, and eventually by the mask he is forced to wear over his cared face.

Val Armorr aka Karate Kid:
Karate Kid is actually Val Armorr, a super-hero from the future and also a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes. He is a master of every form of martial arts to have been developed by the 30th Century. The extent of his skill was so great that he could severely damage various types of hard material with a single blow and was briefly able to hold his own against Superboy through use of what he called “Super Karate”.

The brotherly dynamic of Hawk and Dove would be an interesting concept to see realized on TV. While it’s likely that Hawk and Dove would be introduced on Arrow (or maybe The Flash) it would be best suited if these two made the jump to Legends of Tomorrownot long after. Their dynamic could easily replace the banter between Doctor Stein and Jax Jackson, assuming the writers want to refresh the shows lineup every season. On top of that, the interesting blend between the meta and magic aspects of their powers would make for a further interesting TV-dynamic and execution.

Saintgnue’s role on Teen Wolf has proven he is perfect for the role of the hot-headed ex. jock who is still seeking some form of approval. On Teen Wolf, this approval is sought out in attempting to be comfortable with his sexuality, but on Arrow/Flash/Legends, it could be any number of things.

Don Hall aka Dove I:

Regardless of who is paired with who, the same Hawk/Dove sibling-like dynamic could be brought onto whatever show they are chosen to appear on.

The Suburgatory alum is a fairly skilled actor and could own the aggressive, but charming, role of Holly Granger in a similar fashion to Cody Saintgnue and Hank Hall.

Aldus Boardman aka Hector Hall aka Silver Scarab:
When Peter Franis James was first cast as Aldus Boardman and was said to have a connection with the Hawks (Hawkman and Hawkgirl) my mind immediately jumped to the possibility that he was playing Hector Hall, son of Carter and Shayera. The pilot episode of Legends of Tomorrow revealed that he was indeed their son, but he was not Hector…but rather a very toned down and muddled version of him. That being said, I think it would be interesting if the Legends traveled further back in time and met a YOUNG Aldus who, after his parents died chose to go by “Hector Hall”, and revealed that he was/is a costumed hero of the past as well, the Silber Scarab.

While my familiarity with Richmond’s work extends only as far as Everybody Hates Chris, I feel he has a certain resemblance to Peter Francis James and could more than certainly pull off the roll of brash, young, and emotionally tortured – his character’s parents were killed in front of him by Vandal Savage – hero.

Jason Blood aka Etrigan:
Seeing as Legends of Tomorrow has essentially confirmed we will see various period-based characters with the casting of Jonah Hex, I sat down and began to consider what other period characters the show could potentially use. Jason Blood’s storyline could easily be adapted alongside that of Felix Foust and Morgaine le Fey as he – as he is in the comics – could be a knight of King Arthur who is forcefully bonded with the demon Etrigan. In doing so blood would become not only an immortal, but a man of the run from himself and what he has the potential of becoming.
Played By: Daniel Sharman
When initially casting blood I had considered using someone older, someone in their late 40’s who could show the wear of time despite being an immortal…and then I realized we’d already seen that with Ra’s Al Ghul, Damien Darhk, and Vandal Savage. On the other hand we had yet to see what a fit, able-bodied, and yet tortured young man would do with his immortality and so, Daniel Sharman seemed to be a natural choice. The character’s work on both Teen Wolf and The Originals has expressed that he’s more than capable of playing a character with numerous layers, a perfect fit for Jason Blood.

Abigail Hunkel aka [The] Red Tornado:
One of the numerous easter eggs featured on Rip Hunter’s time ship – in his collection of personal things taken throughout time – is Abigail “Ma” Hunkel’s cooking pot helmet. Seeing her in her prime as a one-off crime fighter would be an interesting story to see unfold…especially if we later learn that Rip discovered her helmet based on this event.

Chilton has proven herself as an actor in various works, one of which Proper Manors particularly expressed her talents as it, unlike some of the others, was a soap opera that demanded her emotions to seem “more real” as soaps tend to follow people in their day-to-day lives and strive to not seem like episodes of TV shows.

Maxine Hunkel aka Cyclone:
One of the more interesting concepts that we have yet to see in The Arrowverse is that of a “legacy hero” or even familial heroes that span generations (we’ve seen Oliver and Thea, siblings, but that’s about it). While this avenue has potential to be explored through both Rip Hunter (via Supernova and Booster Gold) and others, I believe that it’d be interesting to see Cyclone purely because she represents a character we have yet to see in The Arrowverse. Maxine is the ultimate “fan-girl” (much like Cisco) who is bestowed with powers similar to a character we may never see in this universe, Red Tornado.

Quinn has, for years, proven herself as a capable actress and her character’s persona and the vibe given off on Castle prove, she’s more than worthy of handling the role.

Courtney Whitmore aka Stargirl:
If you’re going to bring a character like Cyclone into The Arrowverse, you may as well include her favorite hero as well. Whitmore and her set-father Pat Dungan could bring an interesting father/daughter dynamic that we have yet to see in The Arrowverse. While we do have the Oliver/Thea relationship, their relationship can be “changed” based on how willing Oliver is to train Thea and how willing and able Thea is to accept that training, this is because they both fight with the same techniques, and use the same weapons. On the other hand Pat and Courtney have vastly different power-sets and so Pat has less control over what can (possibly) happen to Courtney in the filed.

Mercy Street, The Carrie Diaries, Race to Witch Mountain these are just some of the venues to see performances given by Robb, a very under rated actor. She is more than capable of pulling off the “fun-loving” teen and would likely work (on screen chemistry) well with Molly C. Quinn’s Maxine Hunkel.

Pat Dugan aka S.T.R.I.P.E.S.:
As aforementioned, Dugan could serve as an interesting contrast to Courtney Whitmore’s high octane personality. That, accompanying the fact that Dugan is her step-father would create an interesting in and out of field dynamic especially suited for the CW, which tends to be a “pro-drama” network.

As I’ve likely proven a few times before – with my castings above – I’m a huge fan of legacy heroes, and if we’re going to see any sort of future on Legends of Tomorrow I’d be more than interesting to see that of the ATOM, and how Ray Palmer’s legacy has lived on past his own life, especially since Ray seemed most “damaged” by the news that he was barely remembered in the future (in the Legends of Tomorrow pilot).

Chau’s time on Supernatural proved that he is not only a capable actor but also is beyond skilled in captivating the audience with both his overall performance and screen presence.

Franklin “Frank” Rock fought during World War II for the U.S. Army, eventually he lost the the rank of sergeant and became an East Company authoritative figurehead.

Ted Kord aka Blue Beetle, played by James Roday
Reason They May Not Appear: Ted Kord may be a popular character amongst comic fans, but unlike The Flash has backstory isn’t that vast nor well known to the general public. With a Booster Gold/Blue Beetle Team Up Movie on the way, I’m doubtful that DC would overlap such unknown – to the general public characters – by having two versions of them.
Michael Jon Carter aka Booster Gold, played by Eric Christian Olsen
Reason They May Not Appear: Booster Gold may be a popular character amongst comic fans, but unlike The Flash has backstory isn’t that vast nor well known to the general public. With a Booster Gold/Blue Beetle Team Up Movie on the way, I’m doubtful that DC would overlap such unknown – to the general public characters – by having two versions of them.
John Smith aka Red Tornado, played by Michael Rosenbaum
Reason They May Not Appear: Given the characters appearance on the CBS Supergirl show, I certainly have my doubts about his appearance in the Arrowverse.
Captain Nathaniel Adam aka Captain Atom, played by Alan Ritchson
Reason They May Not Appear: Captain Atom is nearly an exact copy of Firestorm (except Firestorm is stronger) and while he would bring a new personal story to the table, the character is merely an atomic version of the fusion based here we already have.
VILLAINS
Sylbert Rundine aka Dwarfstar:
The first episode of Legends of Tomorrow revealed to fans that Ray Palmer, the Atom, was actually a student of Professor Martin Stein’s some time ago. Seeing as The Thinker is notably an Atom villain I believe that introducing him as a mental rival to Ray’s would be extremely interesting. The show could establish that, despite what he stated Stein does actually remember teaching Ray…and his rival Sylbert Rundine.

Anyone who has seen Ian Bohen act on Teen Wolf as Peter Hale knows he is more than able to pull off the role of someone who is maniacal and twisted with spite, the perfect role for a character whose spite is based on being beat out time and time again throughout his life.

Clifford DeVoe aka The Thinker:
While Legends of Tomorrow is likely going to tackle a similar issue or storyline, it would be interesting to see the Legends of Tomorrow face off against Vandal Savage in a time where they believe Savage is the villain, when in reality at that point in time even he is being manipulated.
Played By: Chris Vance
Vance’s performances on Rizzoli and Isles, Burn Notice, and Transporter: The Series have cemented his place as someone able to pull the strings and be the mastermind behind the plan, or the man in the field similar to how the Red Skull was portrayed in Captain America: The First Avenger.

Morgaine le Fey:
Seeing as Legends of Tomorrow has essentially confirmed we will see various period-based characters with the casting of Jonah Hex, I sat down and began to consider what other period characters the show could potentially use. Morgaine le Fey’s history as an, “ancient and diabolical sorceress of Arthurian legends. Her history is slightly different from the legends but she is a sorceress gifted in the arts of black magic” (DC Wikia), makes her one the better fitting period character for the show, especially seeing as her character not only tie to other period characters such as Jason Blood/Etrigan, but also that her use of magic ties will with Vandal Savage’s origin.

Raymonde proved on Lost that she is more than capable for what would like be a one or two episode appearance as a dark sorceress.

More on Morgaine le Fey
Felix Faust:
Seeing as Legends of Tomorrow has essentially confirmed we will see various period-based characters with the casting of Jonah Hex, I sat down and began to consider what other period characters the show could potentially use. While Constantine’s canon remains hesitantly shakey in terms of it’s validity in The Arrowverse, the use of Felix Faust could potentially be something the show runners decide is best used for present day, but I would personally use Faust in a medieval throwback episode in which he is initially a much stronger and much “better” magician..known as Merlin. Over time we learn that Faust has become possessed by a demonic soul or something of that nature and that is how he became Faust. Prior to that, as Merlin, he would play the same role Merlin does in the comics in the creation of Jason Blood/Etrigan.
Played By: Julian Sands (assuming Constantine isn’t completely canon, if it is, Mark Margolis)
Sands is an excellent actor who is more than capable of pulling the Faust role off. He’s already broken into the DCTV world as Jonathan Crane’s (Scarecrow) father on Fox’s Gotham, and this role would just compliment the DCTV role he’s already established.

Scandal Savage:
Including the immortal daughter of Vandal Savage as a villain on any of the shows in the Arrowverse would be interesting, but what would make it more interesting, is the fact that she isn’t physically imposing. Thus far every immortal that we’ve seen – Damien Darhk, Vandal Savage, Ra’s Al Ghul – has been a physically imposing villain who, it would seem, uses physicality and knowledge of fighting to get their way. That being said, using someone who contrasts that mold would be more than interesting.
Played By: Victoria Justice
I know, I know, “that girl from Victorious”, yes…this is that girl. That being said, Justice’s short-lived show, Eye-Candy, proved she is more than capable of handling a role that actually requires some form of acting, and her charisma would lend itself very well to a Damien Darhk-like villain.

While we’ve seen a character that can steal faces – Hannibal Bates on The Flash – we have yet to see anyone with the power to steal something more significant than just faces, but powers. Black Alice’s inclusion on Legends – a show where there are multiple powers for her to steal – would add an interesting twist and would bring a Rogue-like character to television..the likes of which have never been seen thus far.

I know, I know, “that OTHER girl from Victorious”, yes…this is that girl. Gillies (and Justice, above) are the only two actresses from Victorious I find talented enough to move on to elsewhere. Gillies new role on Sex and Drugs has proven that she’s more than a Nickelodeon actress and is capable of greater things.
