One hundred of the globe’s brightest minds just competed at the World Championship of Public Speaking.
The event was part of Toastmasters International, a 101-year-old organization founded to foster public speaking skills.
Lorain County has its own Junior Toastmasters Club, which will begin meeting on a monthly basis in Amherst. The first meeting will be Sept. 10.

Recently, 15 girls ages eight to 15 recently gathered through the Youth Leadership Program to showcase their skills with prepared speeches, table topics, and knowledge of parliamentary procedure.
“Toastmasters helped me have enough confidence and strength to speak to anyone,” said 15-year-old Jada Kirk. “Now, every day in school, I have the strength and confidence to speak up instead of being scared and shy to speak.”
