Just when Rangers fans were preparing themselves for a brilliant start to the season against Motherwell in the Belfred Cup, they will also have another reason to celebrate. It has been reported by various media houses that Rangers manager Mark Warburton as well as his number two David Weir, have agreed to extend their stay at Ibrox. The English manager is clearly a fan favourite following the wonders he did last season with the Gers and it is obviously huge news for the fans.

The 53-year-old started his coaching career with Watford but got his big break as the manager at Brentford in 2013. After leading the League One club to Championship, he was snapped up by Rangers and since then, it has been a brilliant story. Warburton took the job at Ibrox last summer and led the club to Championship title with ease and also brought the Scottish Challenge Cup. Rangers narrowly missed out on the Scottish Cup, losing the final against Hibs but in their solid Cup run, they had the bragging rights in the ‘Old Firm Derby”.

After their exceptional last season, Rangers will be aiming to take the Premiership by storm this campaign. They are back in the Premiership after four long years and what a comeback it will be if Rangers can dethrone Celtic off their domestic perch right after their return!

Warburton is looking to leave no stones unturned in his quest to bring the domestic silverware at Ibrox next season and that has been evident from Rangers’ transfer activity so far. The Gers have completed as many as eight signings this summer. Experienced players like Joey Barton, Niko Kranjcar have been brought in while talented young players like Jordan Rossiter also made their move to Ibrox.

It promises to be an exciting season in Scottish football next time around. Celtic’s domestic monopoly is definitely at stake and the news of Warburton extending his contract will provide a further motivational boost to the Gers.

Twitter reacted to the news of Warburton committing his future to Rangers. The fans are obviously very happy with the news and here are some of the best tweets.

Is it possible that Warburton has just signed this new contract to give himself a bigger share of the creditors pot when admin 2 hits?
