Celtic have no plans to sack manager Ronny Deila despite defeat against Rangers in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup, according to BBC Sport. Winning the Scottish Cup was an opportunity for Celtic to finish the season on a high considering the disappointments coming in the way of the Bhoys this season. However, the Premiership holders saw their hopes for a domestic double blown by their arch rivals Rangers on Sunday.

The stage was set brilliantly for the first ‘Old Firm Derby’ this season in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup and it was Rangers who came out victorious at Hampden Park. 120 minutes of footballing action could not separate the two Glasgow giants and Rangers showed their nerves to get the win finally in the penalty shootout. Rangers now have the opportunity to add to their Scottish Championship title as they will play Hibernian in the final of the Scottish Cup.

What next for Ronny Deila? The Norwegian was already under massive pressure from the fans and the defeat against Rangers could have been the final straw. However, BBC Sport claims that the Celtic board is not considering sacking Ronny Deila at this stage of the season.

It will be a good decision from Celtic to stick with Ronny Deila as of now. Celtic have not secured the Premiership title yet. The Hoops are eight points clear of Aberdeen at the top of the table with five games remaining and should be able to clinch the title for the fifth straight season. A managerial change at Parkhead could disrupt the team and their chances for the Premiership title.

Any new manager needs time to settle with a new squad and with only five games remaining in the Premiership, Celtic cannot afford to go through a transition period right now. It will be a wise decision from Celtic to stick with Deila for the remainder of the season and bring a new manager in the summer. Ronny Deila’s contract will anyway expire at the end of the season and the Norwegian does not deserve an extension by any stretch of the imagination.

Deila managed a domestic double with the Scottish Premiership and Scottish League Cup last season which was also his debut season in Scottland after taking charge of the club from Neil Lennon. After having a good first season with the Glasgow side, he hasn’t really taken them to a different level this season which was expected from him.

Celtic were embarrassed in Europe, first by failing to qualify for the Champions League losing the playoff against Malmo. Further disappointments awaited for the Bhoys when they were ousted of the Europa League group stage failing to win a single game in the process.

Ronny Deila clearly does not deserve to manage a big club like Celtic simply because of the fact he has not been able to deliver. Premiership is expected to be closely contested next season with the return of Rangers and Celtic cannot afford to stick with Deila next season. But for now, parting ways with Deila will be foolish from the Glasgow side.
