When I go away on holiday there is nothing I enjoy doing more than relaxing on a pristine beach and indulging in a spot of sunbathing. It’s for this reason alone that I recommend you visit Turkey’s Dalaman region (also known as the Turquoise Coast) on your next break. It is a fabulous destination in which to work on your tan!

Although Turkey’s vast size and variety of terrain means that temperatures across the country can vary significantly, Dalaman – which is located in the south-west of the nation – is the ideal place for sun seekers. With its Mediterranean climate meaning that the average daily temperature in the summer is some 30 degrees, I’m quite confident that, no matter where in the region you go, you’ll have the opportunity to develop a lovely bronzed complexion. To give you a helping hand, however, I’ve set out some information about the region’s most popular resorts.

I visited Marmaris on a family holiday several years ago and I can definitely recommend it for people who are keen to gain a good tan. Come here in July or August and you’ll find the temperature can reach as high as 40 degrees C, though when I went it was approaching the 50 degrees C mark.

Whether you choose to recline on Marmaris’s black sand beach or next to your accommodation’s swimming pool, you should find ample opportunity to bask in pleasant sunshine. Don’t worry if you’d rather be a little more active while soaking up some rays, as numerous operators run exciting excursions for tourists. Many of these set off from the harbour and include boat tours of the local bay and four-wheel drive safari trips through the mountains, while water skiing, sailing and scuba diving are a few of the activities you can have a go at back on the beach.

I also recommend that you explore Marmaris Castle – a stunning fortress that was constructed in 1522 – while the resort’s array of bars and clubs make it a great place to enjoy a few drinks once the sun has gone down.

Dalaman’s holiday destinations don’t start and end with Marmaris, however, and Fethiye is an equally brilliant place for a sun-soaked getaway. Come here on a cheap Dalaman Airport transfer and you’ll find that, although it isn’t as hot as Marmaris, the weather will certainly be good enough to get a wonderful tan.

From your position on the sheltered sandy bay, you can look out over the crystal-clear Mediterranean Sea – which is a fantastic destination for diving and swimming – while a number of picturesque islands can be spotted in the distance. You’ll be spoilt for choice with pretty beaches to sunbathe on, though I particularly recommend Kuleli and Boncuklu, while Aksazlar Bay offers stunning views of the local landscape.

If you fancy a break from being a beach bum, I recommend you head into town to check out Fethiye’s fascinating history. Over the years it has been ruled by the Romans and Persians, among other civilisations, all of which has left a fascinating cultural legacy. The ancient Lycian rock tombs and remains of a Roman-era theatre are just two attractions worth checking out, though you should find there is plenty more to catch your eye.

These are just a couple of the amazing resorts that the Turquoise Coast is home to, but if you’re considering taking a holiday to the region let us know where you would like to go by leaving a comment below.
