Indigo blue is a new, refreshing neutral on the fashion scene this season. It was featured in many collections, including Antonio Berardi and Temperley London. Stella McCartney, Chanel
Chanel and Stella McCartney highlighted saffron and honey in their designs. Rich reds, like scarlet and tomato, dominated the catwalk in Chanel, Monique Lhuillier and Nina Ricci collections. Browse our Autumnal coloured fabric here. The pastel palette focuses on greys and beige tones as the signature hues for this season.

Prints
Sleek stripes from summer are still in and are featured from head to toe in striking colour combinations. Statement placement motifs add personality and character to looks. Floral and woodland details receive a fresh update, as they appeared on black backgrounds in collections like Paul Smith and Victoria Beckham.

Just Cavali, Gucci, Jill Stuart, House of Holland
Snakeskin and fishnet are the new animal prints on the scene (as seen in House of Holland and Just Cavalli). Also expect to see a lot of all-over vibrant harlequin prints this season.

One of the biggest fashion features this season is the use of masculine elements to add comfort and functionality to feminine outfits. Puffy, oversized sleeves continue from summer, with these non-conventional features forming the focal point of otherwise simple attires. Equally interesting is the exposed shoulder trend, where cut-out shoulders on shirts and dresses add an interesting touch of drama. Check out collections by Mary Katranzou and Julien Macdonald.

Experimental layering with dresses over t-shirts were featured by Louis Vuitton, Tommy Hilfiger and Valentino. Different types of looks grow together with layering to trick the eye as a single ensemble. Airy, fluid full-length dress styles are the latest in formal wear, while wrap skirts carry the asymmetrical style of last season. Micro flare pants and fitted jumpsuits in vibrant colours are another popular style.

Retro looks of the 80’s are back on the scene, with oversize zippers and trims adding a stylish edge to skirts and tops. Midi hems, stopping just over the knees, are also in.

Biker jackets paired with feminine dress styles are a practical, everyday choice. Earthy tones of camel and toffee are the new browns featured in outer wear. Loose fitting, masculine, oversize and comfortable dress styling continues to be popular, with maxi coats and those that rest at ankle and calf length in the limelight. Escada, Hermes and Cristiano Burani featured oversize jumpers and cinched in waists with belts. Patchwork denim jackets and cowgirl bell-bottom jeans with raw hems are the updates in denim.

Skirts and Suits
Chic metallic hues dressed up pleated skirts on the catwalks, making them the go-to choice for the festive season. Also seen were side pleats, barely there pleats and pleated, dual-tone designs. Bronze, silver and gold are the most popular metallics on the scene this season (Valentino, Christiano Burani). The multi-layer skirt is another new update on the fashion scene.

Hip pant suits with pinstripes, which are another big trend this season, are great for office wear. Bright colours and artistic design motifs add a feminine twist to otherwise masculine designs. See our favourite stripe fabrics here.

Fabrics

Velvet is the material of the year, as it made its appearance everywhere, in skirts, blouses and dresses. This soft fabric adds a touch of warmth and glamour to collections, and is featured in a range of fall colours. Another equally feminine element was ruffles, seen in a number of designer collections like John Galliano and Jil Stuart.

Lace, the eternal classic, gains mainstream presence. The latest version is luxe peek-a-boo lace that is either thick and heavy or sheer and delicate. Both types are perfect to pair with heavy knits and casual tops.

Feathers and fringes embellish tops, skirts, trousers and dresses, adding interesting textures and movement to simple outfits. Fur, in multicolored variants, is extra popular in not only garments but handbags and jewelry as well.

Accessories

Chokers are a hot fashion accessory. They were seen in different forms and colours, made from metal, beads, velvet, leather and a range of other materials. If you’re looking for something different, or perhaps you’re opting for a vegan look, why not try cork leather? Intriguing sculptural elements were involved in Narciso Rodriguez designs and crystal collars were featured in Givenchy.

Geometric designs and motifs embellish hand and foot accessories. The punk style was played up with buckled cuffs and multicolored fur.
Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Bottega Veneta, Chanel
Scarves were in slim, sleek designs that hit way below the waist or were worn high on the neck. Striped and silky versions are the trend this season, as are tiny fur scarves that perfectly match the colours of the clothes they are paired with.
