While Christmas is an amazing time of year, it also means work. Shopping, cooking and card-writing. That last one can sometimes be a real chore.
KLG: You know, I don’t want more stress, but we send out a card. And you’ve probably already seen the one from the Kardashians. I’ve been friends with Kris Jenner for so many years that I’ve been getting the Kardashian-Jenner card long before the world got those cards. I mean, they’ve gotten more outrageous for sure, but she always does a Christmas card.
HK: The thing about Kath is she writes thank-you notes year-round. I do write some cards during Christmas, but it’s the only time I ever do it. I don’t do it year-round. I don’t write thank-you notes, I don’t spend my time like that.

KLG: Right. She spends her time organizing her life. Hoda and I are going to start a whole new thing next year. We are going to say the secret to bliss is to keep Christmas in your heart all year and celebrate Thanksgiving twice: Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Can you imagine how simplified the world would be? You’d give gifts all year to people you love just to tell them how much you love them, but not because you have to, and then eat on Thanksgiving and eat on Christmas and go to a biker bar on New Year’s Day.
HK: I like that, ’cause there’s nothing worse than it being Christmas Eve and you don’t have a gift for someone who gave you something, and you run into Duane Reade looking for a candle that you can wrap. I’ve done that. K? It happens.
KLG: I look forward to the day, and it’s really starting to happen now, when I’m no longer relieved when the holidays are over. You’re supposed to relax and enjoy and celebrate all the blessings we have and not try to survive and still be standing on New Year’s Day. It’s like a battlefield out there for people. It just adds to the stress, so you get to the point right after Thanksgiving you’re dreading. That’s bad.

AN A-LIST GIFT LIST
We get a lot of crazy holiday cards and even some gifts from notable people we’ve talked to on “Today” and elsewhere. And it doesn’t really bother us when others don’t get into the holiday spirit.
KLG: Should we feel bad that Barry Manilow hasn’t sent us anything this year? I don’t think so. Also, we got nothing at all from Mariah Carey when she was on this week.
HK: I got a very important gift from a friend named Duncan Hines.
KLG: From whom?
HK: It was such a great gift: a cake that looked like someone’s grandma had baked it. It said, from your friends at Duncan Hines. They LIKE US. And I love Mr. Hines.
KLG: Well. Fergie, from the Black Eyed Peas, sent me these fantastic, hot, sexy shoes from her shoe line, and 40% of the proceeds go to charity. Hoda got a cake, and I got shoes.
HK: Ho, ho, ho.
KLG: Hoda wants boots. Maybe hooker boots for ho, ho, Hoda.

Who doesn’t love holiday music?
KLG: From Thanksgiving to Groundhog Day, Hoda listens to a Christmas CD I recorded (in 1993).
HK: I also love “This Christmas,” by — ugh, I forget … oh! — Donny — Hathaway!
KLG: He always has the songs that everybody loves but can never remember who sang it.

HOLIDAYS ARE NO VACATION
With so much to do and just days to go until the holidays, there are those who rush to the stores to do their shopping at the last minute. Guess who’s among them.
HK: Yep, I’m doing my shopping late and I’m going to blame — like everyone else in America — the fact that THANKSGIVING CAME LATE. OK? That’s the only conversation we need to have about why no one has a tree, no one has decorations, no one has presents.
KLG: I do!
HK: You’re special, Thanksgiving came earlier for you.
KLG: Oh, that’s right, it came earlier in Connecticut. How could I forget? That’s right. I had an extra week.
HK: Is your shopping done?
KLG: Of course it is. It gets easier as your children get older and they’re at the point where it’s not about gifts for them, they just want to be with you — I don’t know why they still want to be with us, but Frank and I are thrilled that they still do. We don’t just want to be with them, they want to be with us.
THE SEASON’S WARM GLOW
To heck with a white Christmas, we both seek out warmer climates at this time of year.
HK: Usually I do Christmas in Dubai, because my sister lives there. But this year, my sister and my mom and I are going to the Bahamas because we love the warmth.
KLG: Hoda woman is my sun goddess.

WISHING FRIENDS WELL
We had an incredible year, and there’s not much more we could ask for. What we’d like is for it to get a little easier for some of our friends, like Amy Robach at “GMA.”
KLG: That makes me happy. Going into the New Year cancer-free, that makes me happy.
HK: So true.
KLG: You’re six years cancer-free, right?
HK: Yes I am, six years. But I also want some boots.
KLG: She wants boots!
HK: Nine and a half, 10 on occasion.
KLG: All her shoes are a 10. She’s such a bull-jiver.
