After 2000+ years of “hating” gays, I think this is a step forward. He’s okay with gay marriage. Unfortunately, THESE THINGS TAKE TIME. How fucking stupid can these humans be? OH LET’S COMPLETELY IGNORE THE FACT THAT HE’S OKAY WITH LETTING GAY COUPLES THAT LOVE EACH OTHER GET MARRIED AND FOCUS ON HOW HE DOESN’T WANT THEM ADOPTING KIDS. Are you fucking serious? This is a huge thing for a CATHOLIC MAN, the POPE no less, to say? Are you really that blinded by your hate against Catholicism to see that this is a huge step forward? So rather than bitching about the things he’s not in favor of, why don’t we step back and be happy that this old Argentinean dude has at least a LIIIITTLE bit of sense.
ok first of all why is “hating” in quotation marks as if you question the legitimacy of that claim? the catholic church has made it through text, practice, lawful influence, preach and social action abundantly clear they hate (HATE. that thing their religion is supposed to be against—in theory of course. always in theory.) anyone who does not follow a heterosexual or chaste lifestyle. don’t distance my claim from the church by holding “hate” at arm’s length. its their words, not mine.
secondly, why the fuck should we be ok with all the intolerance and ignorance he is promoting? (and not just gays, that was one example. women’s rights is a whole other tangent) because he is LESS AGGRESSIVE about gay marriage? that makes it ok for him to promote hatful and intolerant ethics? you have to remember that this is The. Pope. as in, the man people from the entire world look up to for moral guidance. avoiding gay marriage publicly ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH. its irresponsible to shrug off his entire message because he “did one good [not really] thing and thats enough for now”. how the hell can you be so self righteous and pretend my “prejudice” is what turns me away from this “progress”? this isn’t progress. the oppressed shouldn’t have to quietly, patiently wait their turn so that maybe, a hundred years from now, they can have the same rights as everyone else. we’re not going to fight at a pace that makes the church comfortable, and for you to revile me for not being satisfied with P.Francis’s more watered down condemnation is selfish and ignorant.
also, i don’t know where you heard he’s “okay” with gay marriage. in a publicized letter to nuns he is quoted writing “it [legalization of gay marriage] is a destructive pretension against the plan of God. We are not talking about a mere bill, but rather a machination of the Father of Lies that seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God.” whether or not he will promote this in law as fervently as pope benedict is less important than the fact that THIS is what he believes. and that is very dangerous because this is the man millions look up to for guidance on what is right and wrong—which he clearly lacks the ability to decipher for himself.
so i know it makes your argument easier by saying i am simply “blinded by [my] hate against catholicism” to see the situation clearly, but im afraid i’m not that hyperbolical or fragile. the LAST man we should be making exceptions for or moderating our criticism of (especially in the subject of ethics) is the fucking pope.
