Football predictions for the new Premier League season focusing on the chances of Watford who make a return to the top flight.

Following an eight year absence in the Barclay’s Premier League, Watford secured their return to the Promised Land by virtue of their runners up finish in the Championship last season. Up until December, The Hornets looked well out of the picture for automatic promotion. However the knee-jerk appointment of Slavisa Jokanovic finally paid off and Watford started winning a lot of games, and winning them well in the process. The front three of Deeney, Ighalo and Vydra contributed a whopping 57 goals between them as Watford ended the season as the league's second top scorers with and impressive 91 strikes.

The best odds for Watford to finish bottom of the Premier League are 11/4 with Coral.

The best odds for Watford to finish in the top 10 are 16/1 with Sky Bet.

Nevertheless, no sooner had the Hertfordshire club earned their return to the Premier League and yet more uncertainty was set to run amok in Vicarage Road with the sacking of Slavisa Jokanovic. The Serbian should certainly count himself hard-done-by considering the job he achieved last season, but the board clearly felt he was not up to the task of managing Watford at the highest level. In stepped Quique Flores – Watford's fifth manager in ten months – whose experience at clubs such as Atletico Madrid, Valencia and Benfica appears to have earned him the opportunity at managing in the Premier League.

In the transfer market Flores has certainly not wasted any time since his appointment and a handful of names have already joined the Watford ranks. The likes of Sebastian Prodl, Jose Holebas and Giedrius Arlauskis are all experienced internationals, as is Etienne Capoue who plied his trade with Tottenham last season. It also appears that Flores has not finished there either and Watford currently have an offer pending over Genoa winger Diego Perotti. Although the deal for the Argentine international currently hangs in the balance, the mere fact he will smash their transfer record, shows a huge sign of intent from the Premier League newcomers.

Premier League Betting Tip 1 – Watford to be relegated – 3/4 Ladbrokes.

In really enjoyed watching Watford play last year, and if they can get anywhere near the standard they set in the last third of the season, they will be a tough team to play against. The issue is always how they will manage the step-up in class and how their new signings – manager included – will adapt to playing in England. This season's relegation battle already looks such a tough one to call with as many as ten teams potentially looking to avoid the drop. Watford may well hit the ground running and surprise us all, however, I feel they may just fall short come the end of the season for my first football betting tip.

Premier League Betting Tip 2 – Troy Deeney Premier League top scorer – 80/1 E/W Paddy Power.

Since serving a few months prison time following a nightclub brawl, Deeney has transformed his career and even took on the role of club captain under the reign of Slavisa Jokanovic. His return of 21 goals last season was instrumental to Watford's success, and if he can replicate that form in the Premier League, they will have a chance of staying up. Granted Deeney isn't the easiest on the eye and will certainly pick up his fair share of bookings as well. The former jailbird scores goals, though, and at 80/1 with Paddy Power is an excellent shout as an each way bet for the Premier League golden boot. Charlie Austin finished fourth in the goal scoring rankings for a struggling QPR side last year. This would have returned a nice chunk of cash for anyone wise enough to back him with the same bet.
