Newcastle vs Wolves predictions and football betting tips for this weekend’s Championship fixture and the best odds for our selections in this one.

Newcastle are looking to build upon their midweek thumping of QPR as they host Wolves at St James’ Park. We’ve got the best three football betting tips for this match.

Newcastle v Wolves Preview

Newcastle

Those who tipped Newcastle to win the league at a canter were getting worried at the start of the season, but they’ve since turned a corner and the 6-0 demolition of QPR sent a warning to the rest of the Championship.

Jonjo Shelvey was the star of the show on Tuesday as Newcastle were utterly dominant in West London and it’ll bring terrific optimism to the fans ahead of this one. The former Swansea midfield can be fantastic at times and can have a huge say from the centre of the park. He’ll need to maintain consistency in his performances if they are to return to the Premier League.

Rafa Benitez has made his side solid and has worked wonders to improve a shoddy backline. Jamal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark kept a clean sheet and Lascelles has really grown as a player after an unsure start to the campaign. The Toon haven’t conceded a goal since the 17th of August when they beat Reading 4-1.

Six victories in a row is impressive at any level (league and cup) and they meet Wolves twice in quick succession here.

Newcastle will likely tinker with their line up here, but mainly because they have the personnel to do so and Rafa wants to keep his squad happy. DeAndre Yedlin and Dwight Gayle could return here. Mo Diame, Jack Colback and Christian Atsu could also feature after missing out on Tuesday. It is a talented and somewhat bloated squad, but it’s a healthy position to be in.

Benitez was pleased with his side, but said there was still room to improve. It says a lot that he was managing his team at Loftus Road on a night when many of his former clubs were in Champions League action.

A victory here and suddenly everybody will have to take Newcastle very seriously indeed. They could go above Huddersfield with three points here.

Wolves

There was joy for Newcastle, but despair for Wolves on Tuesday night as Walter Zenga’s side were hit for 4 by Barnsley. Quick fire goals from the Tykes ended Wolves’ mini-unbeaten run and proved there is still plenty of work to do at Molineux.

The fixtures don’t any easier with two meetings with Newcastle inside a week.

Zenga called his side in for extra training on Wednesday and insisted that his side would bounce back. He bemoaned the fact that his side didn’t put up much of a fight and he wants to see more commitment from his side.

Until that point, they’d been fairly solid at the back, but they were undone by a lively Barnsley side and they won’t be the only ones this season.

It’s been all change recently in the Wolves side, they have a cripplingly long injury list and a new-look frontline which is still getting acquainted with one another. Heldar Costa, Paul Gladon and Jon-Dadi Bodvarsson haven’t quite connected as expected yet and with Joe Mason waiting in the wings, he might get the nod here. At least the former Cardiff man is familiar with his division and has a decent goalscoring record at this level.

Former Newcastle defender Mike Williamson will miss this match and won’t feature against his former club whilst Michael Zyro and Jordan Graham are also long term absentees.

There could be a recall for Dave Edwards.

It’s been a mixed bag away from home so far with a victory (Birmingham), a draw (Rotherham) and a defeat (Huddersfield)

St James’ Park is a difficult place to go with many Premier League sides failing to take maximum points away last season. Wolves won’t be expecting much from this match, but they’ll be determined to keep the score down, especially after the midweek embarrassment.

Newcastle vs Wolves Predictions

Newcastle are as short as you would expect in the latest betting odds after their midweek exploits. I fancy them to win this match with a little bit in hand here. Wolves will be wiser than in midweek, but it could easily finish 2 or 3 nil so I’m using the handicap market for my first Newcastle vs Wolves betting tip and backing Newcastle on the -1 handicap at odds of 3/1 with Bet Victor.

Both Teams to Score Tips

Newcastle have been brilliant at the back recently and really well organised. I fancy another clean sheet for the Magpies so my next Newcastle vs Wolves prediction is for both teams to score? NO. This means if one of both teams fail to score the bet is a winner – the odds are 21/20 with Bet Victor.

Anytime Goalscorer Tips

Jonjo Shelvey is almost certain to get a start here after his performance in the week and if he can continue his fine form, he looks a good price to find the back of the net again so he is our anytime goalscorer prediction for Newcastle vs Wolves in this weekend Championship fixture at odds of 9/2 with bet365.
