Macclesfield vs Oxford United predictions and football betting tips for Friday’s FA Cup second round fixture with reasons for each tip, team news and head to head stats.

Oxford came through a tricky tie in the first round against the lowest ranked club Merstham and progressed easily. They have drawn National League side Macclesfield in the 2nd round and we’ve got the best three bets for the match.

Both sides have had a good rest ahead of this tie. Oxford weren’t scheduled for a midweek game, whilst unsuitable conditions meant that Macclesfield’s game was called off. Their game at Moss Rose against Barrow didn’t go ahead, but conditions should have warmed up by the time the League One outfit visit the North West of England. Macc sprung a surprise in the previous round of the competition sneaking past League One Walsall thanks to a John McCombe goal. The big defender has been around the football league for many years and knows the importance of these occasions. It was the former Port Vale man’s only goal this season, but what an important strike it was. They’ve been rewarded with a televised tie against another outfit from England’s third tier. The Silkmen sit in 11th place, but due to adverse weather are already two matches behind many of their rivals. Their home match with Dover at the weekend was abandoned, leaving them without a completed game since the 22nd of November. They’ve been victorious in 50% of their home games this campaign, but haven’t scored here since the 1st of October (taking away the goal scored in the abandoned match).

Oxford have improved of late and managed to hold leaders Scunthorpe to a 1-1 draw last weekend. The Iron might not have been at their best, but few sides have emerged with something to show for their efforts from Glanford Park. Michael Appleton’s side will be well-organised and tough to break down. They have been impressive at the Kassam this season and a home tie would have been preferable here. They have picked up 7 points from a possible 9 after a brief flirt with relegation in October. Only Oldham have conceded fewer goals than the U’s in the bottom half of League One. They’ve conceded just a single goal in the last three games. Their away form may not be impressive, but they have taken four points from a possible six against the top two in the division.

Macclesfield vs Oxford Predictions

Oxford are pretty short at around 8/13 in the latest FA Cup betting odds. To squeeze more value from this Macclesfield vs Oxford, back the match to be all square at the break with Oxford eventually making the difference in the second half. They’ve netted in the second 45 in three of their last five way matches.

Both Teams to Score Tips

Macclesfield will be up for this and although they’ve been lacking goals at Moss Rose recently, I think they will find a way past the Oxford defence so both teams to score is my second FA Cup betting tip for this one.

Anytime Goalscorer Tips

Chris Maguire is a man capable of making the difference. The former Sheffield Wednesday man can be frustrating at times and is susceptible to many an off day, but he can be a match-winner on his day and tends to take the majority of set pieces so he’s a good bet for an anytime scorer and completes our Macclesfield vs Oxford predictions for the FA Cup second round match.

Macclesfield vs Oxford Team News

Michael Appleton has said he will make a few changes to his side, but won’t be changing his goalkeeper. Simon Eastwood looks set to retain his place ahead of Benji Buchel, who hasn’t featured this season. Liam Sercombe’s recovery time has been reduced from 6 months to 3 months after picking up a knee injury last month and will miss this. It looks like Chey Dunkley and Joe Skarz came through Saturday’s match with few ill-effects of their knocks picked up against Gillingham the week before.

Richie Wellens signed for Macclesfield earlier in the week and is eligible to feature if his fitness is up to scratch, he may have to settle for a place on the bench.

Macclesfield will be call upon their strongest 11 in this match with many of the players having benefitted from the rest. Danny Whittaker said this week the players cannot wait to get going again.

Macclesfield vs Oxford Head to Head

These two haven’t met since 2012 when they clashed in League Two. The sides shared the points on both occasions, drawing 1-1 in both of those matches. Oxford haven’t won here since 2002.

Macclesfield vs Oxford Betting Odds

Oxford start this fixture at very short odds. 8/13 or 4/6 are the best prices available with many of the bookmakers. If you fancy a shock, you can back the home team at around 9/2 although prices vary. The draw is 16/5.

Three Oxford players – Kane Hemmings, Chris Maguire and Ryan Taylor dominate the goalscoring market, but all three are not certain to start.
