Description: This submission comes from an ex-pat living in Hong Kong, a city full of tradition and culture and literally thousands of things for a foreign visitor to do and see. Oh yeah, and if you’re interested they also have junkies you can take pictures of! This caption proves that you can take the girl out of Baltimore, but you can’t take the Baltimore out of the girl:
Originally a Baltimoron, I’ve lived in a seedy part of Hong Kong for almost two years. I see this guy doing the junky nod almost every day on this crate. I’m quite disappointed, because there were two hookers standing beside him, beckoning men in for a “massage,” but they ran when they saw my camera- it would have made this photo a million times more awesome.
Keep up the good work, you have traveled far but the Baltimore fascination with junkies is still strong.
I took off a number of points for the sitting down on this one, but was still super impressed by a number of things in this submission. For one, I like how this guy is a smack-head living in basically a self storage unit but still has the respect to take off his shoes before entering his “house”. I bet that saves him a TON on carpet cleaning.
Also, I like that Hong Kong is pretty much in the tropics but for some reason there is absolutely no vegetation growing in the brick pavers of the slums alleys. Take a walk through the back alleys around Hollins Market, it will look like the residents are trying to grow corn out of the sidewalk. That kind of pride in your neighborhood is long dead in America.
But unfortunately this blog is not about community building or neat housekeeping, it’s about smack, and this guy is just too soft-core for skin-a-max.
