Cumbria, United Kingdom - The new electrically activated Tecnofire grade will be launched at CAMX, the composites and advanced materials expo, in October.

This unique material is designed for use in remotely activated fire protection systems. It incorporates conductive fibres, which enable the material expansion to be initiated by passing a current across the sample. The result of the expansion is a thick insulating char, this significantly reduces the degradation rate of underlying materials by insulating them from the heat energy.

An added benefit is that the material is also a viable EMI shield; tests show that the integral conductive fibres give an insertion loss (at 10 GHz) of >40 dB.

In addition, our new Tecnofire will also feature in the CAMX conference program. Mandy Clement, TFP’s Technology Manager, will be presenting at the CAMX conference on the topic of ‘Enhancing composites using wet-laid nonwovens’. Mandy will introduce this novel nonwoven development, discussing how TFP’s functional materials can be used to enhance a wide range of composite properties such as Fire Resistance and EMI Shielding.
