Paris, France - Creativity will be showcased at Texworld, the international event for fashion fabrics and clothing with nearly 900 exhibitors, from 15 to 18 September 2014. Texworld will host an exhibition of collections by the winners of the latest Dinard International Festival of Young Fashion Designers. It will also feature two shows by the couturier Eymeric François, and by winners of the Dinard Festival and third-year students majoring in knits at the ESMOD fashion design and business school.

Maël Larcher and Marie-Morgane Dumont, the respective winners of the Grand Prix Création Homme and the Prix d’encouragement (sponsored by Texworld and Messe Frankfurt France) at the most recent Dinard Festival, will showcase their collections in a specially staged production. You will experience the Maël Larcher collection of monochrome streetwear, dominated by an infinite range of blacks, and Marie-Morgane Dumont’s poetically-inspired creations in natural fabrics.

Starting Tuesday, visitors will be able to experience a series of shows: Eymeric François will unveil his “Vampires” collection. His voluptuous, diaphanous creations sealed in black will electrify the senses. Collections by third-year ESMOD students majoring in knits is a must-see – a wealth of creativity, colours and shapes. Three past winners from the last five Dinard Festivals will be taking part together for the first time. They are Manix Wong from 2010, the duo Kyuho Lee and Cécile Dallançon from 2013, and Maël Larcher and Marie-Morgane Dumont from 2014. Manix Wong will have a second one-man show featuring his Laclos Paris label.

These events will complement the “Impulse” lectures, highlighting show trends for winter 2015,on Monday 15 and the afternoon of Wednesday 17 September, by the two artistic directors LouisGérin and Grégory Lamaud. They will interpret influences, codes and colours, providing impetusfor stylists, style directors and weavers. Such lectures always receive close attention from professionals who have the following to say about them: “Texworld trends set the pace, because they highlight concepts which have both an international and very Parisian influence!”

The two Pantone lectures planned for the morning and afternoon of 15 September are also unmissable events covering trends inspiring the textile industry. Whilst the first entitled “Psychology of colours” will be more of a social and psychological study, the second, “Colour trends winter 2015-16″ will address the direction and development of the palettes which will have an impact on what the textile industry has to offer.

SPOTLIGHT ON THAILAND’S EXPERTISE WITH TRADITIONAL TEXTILES AND HAND-MADE ITEMS

At this event, Thailand will promote the richness of its textile heritage, exhibiting more than one hundred silk and cotton fabrics produced by twenty rural communities as part of the OTOP (“One Tambon One Product”) project launched in 2001 by the Thai government. “Tambon” is Thai for a community or small village. The fabrics exhibited at Texworld are entirely hand-woven, and prices range from 70 to 250 euros per metre. Visitors will be able to place orders.

The aim is to identify and promote unique local skills, benefit from local resources and develop quality products which meet the demands of domestic and international markets. Numerous Thai manufacturers already order such fabrics. OTOP is working to support the economic independence of communities by helping them to market their products, particularly by using out-of the-ordinary sales arguments and selling prices.

Each season, Texworld hosts the Thai pavilion which accommodates around twenty exhibitors, including weavers who draw their inspiration from the traditional skills of their country, which are reflected in both the motifs and the fabrics used.

The OTOP pavilion will be opened to visitors from 9:00 a.m on Monday 15 September with the official opening taking place at 11.00 a.m. in the presence of Thai officials and celebrities.

RESPONSIBILITY IN THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY – THE PRINCIPAL THEME OF THE SUSTAINABILITY DAYS

Texworld is continuing to make visitors and exhibitors aware of the importance of sustainable development to the textile industry. For the first time, the Sustainability Days at this event will cover two days, Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 September, as there are more lectures on sustainability than in previous years.

On Tuesday morning, the “Africa en Vogue, opportunities and challenges of textile & apparel sourcing markets in East Africa GOTS” conference, chaired by Ariane Biemond from Solidaridad, will mark the kick-off of the Sustainability Days.

Then, GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) will introduce a series of lectures with the subjects “Can sustainable development be certified?” and “Ecological, social and economic criteria according to GOTS, illustrated by specific examples of textile companies”. They will be followed by a workshop with WellMade, entitled, “WellMade, trends in sustainable development”.

In the afternoon, WRAP will explain its standpoint on the same topic providing an update that will shed light on standards, their development and new practices. It will be followed by another lecture, “The challenges of sustainable development for the textile and clothing industries – the current situation, constraints and pre-conceptions” by Hélène Sarfati-Leduc, an independent sustainable development consultant. Her presentation will answer questions raised about new rules and requirements identified in the earlier lectures.

The symposium, “Responsibility in the textile industry”, chaired by Lorenz Wied, vice-president responsible for commercial development at Lenzing AG, will take place on Wednesday afternoon. Industry specialists and brand managers will take the floor to explain their choices and their vision of sustainable policy. Texworld wants to encourage a dialogue between all the stakeholders – experts on the topic, companies operating in the industry and visitors.
