Female Democrats attacked President Donald Trump by wearing white in a powerful show of unity to honor women's suffrage as he made his first address to a Joint Session of Congress, the Daily Mail reports.

The homage to their heroines was led by minority leader of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi who says Trump doesn't support women's rights.

Pelosi tweeted: “Tonight, our Democratic #WomenWearWhite in support of women's rights - in spite of a @POTUS who doesn't!”

During the 60-minute speech where Trump vowed “I am here tonight to deliver a message of unity and strength', the female Democrats could be seen giving the President the thumbs down when he brought up repealing and replacing Obamacare.

Trump said: “Obamacare is collapsing and we must act decisively to protect all Americans.”

“So I am calling on all Democrats and Republicans in the Congress to work with us to save Americans from this imploding Obamacare disaster.”

Some of the 66 women serving in the House and four non-voting delegates also wore blue 'save Obamacare' buttons and ACLU ribbons in defiance of President Trump's travel ban.

Hillary Clinton wore all white at Trump's inauguration. Many assumed this was also an homage to suffragettes. She also wore a white pantsuit during one of the presidential debates.

Pelosi released a statement after Trump's address further blasting the president. She said: “The President's speech was utterly disconnected from the cruel reality of his conduct.

“The President speaks like a populist, but he is selling working people down the river to Wall Street. He claims that he's making America safer, but he has jeopardized the security of our country and weakened our fight against terror with his Administration's dangerous, incompetent and unconstitutional actions.

“The Trump Administration has spent 40 days putting Wall Street first, making America sick again, sowing fear in our communities, and ensuring Russia maintains its grip on our security and our democracy. Democrats will continue to lead the fight against President Trump's bait-and-switch assault on America.”

Throughout his speech she was seen shaking her head. Only a few months ago, many representatives rescinded their support for Trump as the Republican nominee because of lewd comments he made about women.

Democrats have accused Trump of wanting to roll back abortion rights. He has said he wants to defund Planned Parenthood and has consistently said he wants to nominate a pro-life Supreme Court pick.

At one point during his campaign, he said he wanted to punish women who had abortions. Trump has since backtracked on that statement.

Beyond abortion, President Trump proposed to cut funding for Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grants which aids victims of domestic abuse.

Florida Representative Lois Frankel tweeted: “Tonight, Democratic Members will wear suffragette white to oppose Republican attempts to roll back women's progress #WomenWearWhite”

House Democratic Caucus Vice Chairwoman Linda Sanchez told the Los Angeles Times: 'It's really important to show that what candidate Trump said about women and the way that he has behaved toward women in the past is not an acceptable standard for a president.'

“We want a visual reminder to him that suffragettes wore white and we are not going to let him take us backward. We are not going to let men dictate the choices that we have in our lives. We are not going to stand for a president that doesn't respect us and take our perspective into account.”
