With under two weeks to go until London’s Desertfest opens its doors and invites us all in for a weekend packed with more riffs than Iommi’s dreams, we’ve decided to count down the days by showcasing one of the awesome bands playing the event every day from now until the 25th. Let’s kick things off with the gloriously sludgy Ghold…

For those that frequent the London metal scene, Ghold will already be a familiar name – if they aren’t, then emerge from the rock you’ve been hiding under and experience ethereal heaviness at its most primitive. Despite only having one full length, ‘Judas Ghoat’, under their belts, the duo have proven that they’re worth their weight in riffs by sharing stage space with the likes of Beehoover, Conan and Ufomammut.

Calling upon an eclectic array of influences such as Melvins, Tom Waits and Harvey Milk, then wrapping it up in an atmosphere that would rival that of the deepest darkest reaches of a Neanderthal’s cave, the pair (comprised of guitarist Alex Wilson and drummer Paul Antony) pull off a ruckus that would have bands with double the members quivering in their wake.

Latest EP ‘Galactic Hiss’ is skull splittingly heavy and you can catch them tearing up The Black Heart stage on the Saturday of Desertfest. A word of caution, however, the band cannot be held responsible for the resulting faces melted off during their set.
