The last week rains again exposed the inefficiency and corrupt practices being followed meticulously by the GHMC Authorities in providing civic amenities to the people living in the GHMC area.
The contractors being awarded various works in the GHMC area are conniving with the GHMC engineers and staff in ensuring that the works allotted to them can be completed with poor quality so that the same work can be awarded to them again and again.
The proof for the above statement is the condition of Drainage Caps being provide by the Contractors in the cement roads laid recently in the area (Paparayudu Nagar) opposite Balakrishna Nagar in Kukatpally. Most of the Drainage Caps are either sunk or broken. For these drainage caps again the contracts will be awarded. Thus it is an eternal source of income for both Contractors and those GHNC staff conniving with them.
I have sent several emails to Mr. Somesh Kumar the Commissioner of GHMC in reply to one of the emails I got a reply asking me to list the roads that need repairs!! I did provide the list and no action is taken nor any response is given so far. This is the civic sense of the GHMC Leadership.
I paid property tax, road tax and other taxes to the GHMC as a citizen and I demand the following to be implemented immediately:
1. Any work that is being taken up shall be notified in the GHMC website area wise with all the relevant details of the work like duration in which the work shall be completed, value of the work , Contact details of the Contractor and GHMC Engineer/staff supervising that work for ensuring quality and timely completion. This information shall be kept conspicuously at the place of work. It shall also be stated in the website the quality of the work prescribed to the contractor and his and the GHMC Staff’s accountability if that quality standard is proved to be not met.
2. Speed Breakers: I had written several emails urging the GHMC to remove the speed breakers that are built not to the road standards and thereby causing so much inconvenience, accidents during night (as they are not painted well) and thus they became the SPINE BREAKERS.
3. Digging of roads: Many times the residents of the colonies dig the roads for laying cables, connecting drains, or for various purposes but they do not make them good again. Before making the road or repairing the road all provisions to get connections shall be made and no road shall be dug later. Even after if the road needs to be dug the concerned local resident shall ensure that it is made good as per the standards prescribed.
4. Patch work / repair of roads: Even in this era of information technology a citizen needs to make a written complaint about the road repair. This shall be changed. GHMC must survey all roads at fine intervals and undertake the repair work continuously in a manner that does not damage further or make a bumpy ride for the commuters.
5. Objective Accountability of GHMC Staff: the GHMC official website must publish the Performance Goals of all its critical staff area wise along with their contact details (both email and mobile numbers). Problems identified and solved before citizens make a complaint and no. of complaints received and resolved are some the key Performance Indicators for the critical staff of the GHMC. Increments, promotions etc shall be directly linked the ratings they get.
6. The city shall be made easily navigable with clear and unique direction boards. Any new stranger to the City must be able to move around with ease with the help of the road maps, directions boards etc., provided at critical places.
7. Garbage collection and disposal: The GHMC is famous for making the school going children expose to the stinking smell emanating from the open pulling carts while going to the school every morning. The garbage collection shall be concluded before 7.00 am in the city.
8. Sweeping of roads: The school going children are being subjected to dust every morning – thanks to the GHMC sweepers. They start the sweeping work at 8.00 am burn the garbage or leaves every morning making the children choke for fresh air in the morning.
9. GHMC has got pockets of darkness one such is seen in Ameerpet the lane adjacent to Mytrivanam! This road is the open garbage bin! Thanks to the Institutes offering software courses they hurl pamphlets in the air, distribute and keep posters all over. If one stands static at this place probably a poster would cover him/her soon!! Illuminate city with LED lights and save energy too.
10. GHMC earns Paapa for plating sapling and not nurturing them. Avenue plantation shall be given top priority with percolation pits on all open plots, road corners and such other places so that rain water is allowed to percolate down and charge the ground water. Trees help make the balanced ecosystem. GHMC shall team up with Transco and ensure that no trees are cut to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
These are the basic demands of many citizens like me. Please publish this in a suitable manner so that it gets due attention. Golden Telangana is certainly possible with small improvements in the way the civic bodies like GHMC work.
