Game Overview

Following a dramatic 25-24 come-from-behind win over the Calgary Stampeders last Friday, the Lions return home to BC Place to take on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at 7:00pm presented by Nissan.

Kevin Glenn gets his seventh start of the season and looks to put back-to-back wins together for the Lions as they try to keep pace in an ultra-competitive West Division. Glenn threw for 277 yards in Calgary last week to push his career passing total to 40,808 yards passing Tracy Ham and moving the veteran pivot into ninth place all-time. He’ll have some experienced help behind him as Travis Lulay likely dresses for his first game of the season on Friday.

Running back Andrew Harris is quickly becoming worth the price of admission on his own after enjoying another productive outing last week with 70 yards along the ground and 73 more through the air. The three-time Canadian Player of the Week and Canadian Player of the Month for July remains atop the CFL rushing standings after six weeks with 381 yards to go along with the league’s second-best pass-receiving total of 341 yards to give him a CFL-best 722 yards from scrimmage.

On defence, the Lions surrendered just a field goal in the second-half of last Friday’s win over the Stamps before the offence got rolling with two fourth quarter touchdowns. Mark Washington’s squad is currently allowing the CFL’s second-lowest average yards per-game at 280.5. Linebacker Solomon Elimimian continues to anchor the Lions defence with 10 stops last week and a CFL-leading 49 tackles to date which puts him 21 ahead of the next best total of 28 notched by teammate Adam Bighill. Together, Pain and Suffering have 77 stops between them, an average of almost 13 per game through six weeks.

The Tiger-Cats come to BC looking to bounce back from a heartbreaking one-point loss at the hands of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last week. Head coach Kent Austin knows his club is better than its current 1-4 record and will have his troops fired up for a Friday night catfight.

There’s no better way to enjoy summer than Lions football and two of the best ways to take in the action are the Global BC Family Zone ($30 including free hotdog and small pop) and the Gemstone Gridiron Deck ($30). Both sections are on sale now – visit ticketmaster.ca or call 604.589.ROAR for more information.
