MUMBAI: With India celebrating its 68th year of independence, the private FM radio networks have designed special initiatives to ring in the celebrations for its listeners.

Radio City will introduce a new show exclusively for the farmers of Maharashtra titled ‘Rangrao Patil’. Focusing on the lives of farmers in Maharashtra, Radio City Ahmednagar’s ‘Rangrao Patil’ will talk about the struggles, the stories and the life of a farmer and his family in a quirky and powerful way. The show will hit the airwaves from 15 August, every Monday to Saturday between 2-3 pm.

In addition, Radio City Lucknow will give 40 listeners a chance to relive history and visit ‘Kakori’ which was one of the important destinations for freedom fighters, while Radio City Hyderabad will treat their listeners to an entire day of their favourite music, non-stop in each show.

As a part of the special programming, the network’s web radio station PlanetRadiocity.com has also lined up a host of programming initiatives for the listeners.

Listeners can tune in to ‘Radio City Fun Ka Antenna’ for ‘Swatantrata Ke Sainani’ which chronicles the most important personalities and their contributions to the freedom struggle. ‘Dil Se Azad’ will allow listeners to request their favourite songs on Radio City Hindi, Radio City Tamil and Radio City Malayalam. Radio City Freedom will also air the ‘6th String Salute’, a musical tribute to the National Anthem played on guitar by Susmit Sen.

Meanwhile, Radio Mirchi will go on ground celebrating the Independence Day through a special concert with The Wadali Brothers. The concert will be presented by the network’s event arm Mirchi Live.

On 15 August, the Wadali Brothers will take centre stage to bring in musical experiences with their mastery of Sufi and Punjabi folk music. The concert will be held at Sri Shanmukhananda Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Auditorium in Mumbai.

The Wadali Brothers were the front-runners to delight music lovers with a flavour of music that stems from the very nooks and crannies of the country.”

Mirchi Live is presented by LIC, powered by New India Assurance Co Ltd, in association with ONGC, and is an initiative by Radio Mirchi.

TV Today network’s radio arm Oye FM will take Bollywood to the border by reaching out to the BSF soldiers through the initiative.

As a tribute, messages of gratitude from movie stars will be played. The on air promotions will be followed by a ground event at Wagah Border with music performances by Ankit Tiwari and Kailash Kher.

The stars that sent tribute messages include Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, John Abraham, Sonakshi Sinha, Nawazudin Siddiqui, Mahesh Bhatt and more.

RJ Nitin Kakkar from Mumbai, RJ Piyush from New Delhi and RJ Heer from Amritsar will set the tone for the evening by entertaining the crowd in the finale event of ‘Bollywood to Border’.

The celebrations will be brought to a close with the ‘beating the retreat’ ceremony at Wagah Border.
