Company provides government & business leaders in the kingdom with access to new platforms for greater flexibility and optimised resources

Amidst the rapid development of the Kingdom’s information & communication technology (ICT) infrastructure, Huawei—a leading global ICT solutions provider—has kicked off a nation-wide Cloud Innovation Road Show collaborating with representatives from the government and private sector to preview how the Saudi national economy can benefit through new advancements in IT cloud technology over the coming five years.

The overall IT spending in Saudi Arabia is estimated to increase by 10.7% this year to total $11.50 billion. Previous research from market intelligence firm IDC research has also noted that public and private clouds were ranked as key issues amongst CIOs in the Middle East in 2013, with 57% of CIOs rating cloud among their top IT priorities.

The Huawei road show was officially launched in Riyadh and will continue in the city until the end of March. The tour will then move across KSA in Jeddah and Dammam over the coming weeks. Amongst those involved in the road show include senior representatives from the Saudi government, telecommunications, enterprises, and academia sectors.

“Societies across the globe are entering into a new era of in-depth integration of the digital and physical worlds, changing the way that organizations deliver on-demand services to the public,” comments Mr. Wu Weitao, CEO of Huawei Saudi Arabia. “In light of this, it is Huawei’s aim to help make IT simple and make business more agile. By bringing together business and IT leaders from across the Kingdom, we pledge to help government, corporate and telcos to better understand the challenges, market needs and position their Cloud offering to monetize huge amounts of digital information for building their competitive advantage.”

One of the highlights of the road show will be a Huawei Demo Truck which gives visitors the opportunity to experience firsthand the latest innovations in data center solutions, virtual servers & desktops, plus a wide range of vertical industry solutions. That will include access to a fully-functional Huawei data center container operating in a live environment inside the demo truck

As part of the campaign, Huawei’s Cloud Innovation Forum will also offer guidance on how new cloud-based IT solutions can be applied in various enterprise environments, particularly in fields of oil & gas, healthcare, education, and banking & finance. Based on its global experience with telecom cloud technologies, Huawei will share proposals to telecom operators on how to open new revenue stream via innovative cloud services and flexible business models.

With much more data being generated today in KSA compared with 10 years ago, participants recognize that much of the technology deployed previously wasn’t designed to cope with the size and variety of data types that exists today. Furthermore, deciding how to process this data and sort out what is valuable and what is not remains a key challenge for many organizations; one that this forum will look to address in helping governments and enterprises to make more informed business decisions.

“New digital security and backup mandates are spurring the demand for more advanced cloud solutions, as is the desire for resource centralization, ease of access to company files, and deeper analysis of digital records,” adds Weitao. “There is a steady increase in the number of organizations in KSA leveraging this understanding of the cloud, although many have yet to fully maximize its potential to impact on the bottom line. Huawei’s all-in-one convergent IT solution offerings are enabling enterprise and telcos to maximize the benefit of cloud in more valuable ways.”

Huawei is currently one of the leading pioneers within Saudi Arabia’s ICT sector providing the most comprehensive IT portfolio in the industry to customers in the telecom, enterprise, and consumer space.  Some of the company’s previous projects in KSA have included working with the government, healthcare entities, and transportation leaders on deploying next-generation IT solutions. Huawei also played a central role in the introduction of 4G LTE mobile services across the Kingdom and is continuing to work with leading operators to plan broadband network expansions.
