Tata Docomo, the unified telecom brand of Tata Teleservices has announced the launch of public Wi-Fi connectivity in Connaught Place (CP) and Central Park, in partnership with New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

At a ceremony organized at the prominent Central Park in CP, Meenakshi Lekhi, Member of Parliament, inaugurated the public Wi-Fi services in the presence of Shankar Agarwal, secretary, Urban Development.

NDMC has partnered with Tata Teleservices to provide Wi-Fi service, which will cover the inner and outer circles of one of the most significant business and leisure centres in the city.

To enjoy Wi-Fi service the user needs to authenticate with a valid mobile number in a Wi-Fi enabled device. Post which the user receives a one time password (OTP) to login and use the service free for 20 minutes. Those who wish to continue enjoying the experience can opt for recharge cards of various denominations, which are easily available online and at Tata Docomo retail outlets.

The recharge cards are available at Rs 10 for 30 minutes, Rs 20 for 60 minutes and Rs 50 for 180 minutes of Wi-Fi access. For any service related assistance customers can call the Wi-Fi call centre number +91-11-60607070.

Opening-up this service to the public of the national capital, Meenakshi Lekhi, member of parliament said, “Launch of Wi-Fi services at the centrally located, Connaught Place, is truly a joyous occasion. These initiatives are in line with prime minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Digital India’, which would enable greater transparency and better governance.”

Addressing the gathering at the launch, Jalaj Shrivastava, chairman, NDMC said, “Enriching facilities such as the Wi-Fi connectivity across Connaught Place showcase the futuristic path NDMC has taken to bring the city at par with international standards. We are pleased to see how the initiatives taken by Tata Docomo have shaped up and we look forward to similar projects being executed by NDMC in the coming times.”

Commenting on the announcement, Shankar Agarwal, secretary, Urban Development Secretary said, “The launch of public Wi-Fi access in Connaught Place is a move in the direction to empower the city. Technology is a great enabler of urbanization, inclusive development, all-encompassing economic prosperity and more job opportunities. Such projects improve the overall quality of life of citizens.”

Launching the CP Wi-Fi Service, N Srinath, managing director, Tata Teleservices said, “Today, Wi-Fi is the new oxygen for the ever-connected generation of smart device users.
