As of Q4 2014, Telus is Canada’s second largest cellphone provider with a subscriber base of over 8.30 million.Since 2008, Telus has operated a MVNO named Koodo Mobile. Koodo is targeted at high school, college and university students, much like the now-defunct Amp’d Mobile Canada that preceded it in 2007.As of 2014, Telus Mobility has completed the purchase of Public Mobile. Bell : Bell Mobility is a Canadian CDMA, LTE and HSPA+ based wireless network (named Bell Cellular until 1993) and the division of BCE Inc. which sells wireless services across Canada. Bell Mobility and its affiliates combined have just under 8.12 million subscribers as of the end of Q4 2014, making it Canada’s third largest wireless carrier.Bell-owned Virgin Mobile Canada and Solo Mobile, as well as Loblaws prepaid PC Telecom, operate as MVNOs on the Bell Mobility network. Some of Bell Canada’s regional subsidiaries continue to operate their own wireless networks separate from (but generally allowing for roaming with) Bell Mobility; these are Northwestel (NMI Mobility and Latitude Wireless), and NorthernTel (NorthernTel Mobility). Wind : Wind Mobile is a Canadian wireless telecommunications provider owned by Shaw Communications.Founded in 2008 by the communications company Globalive, Wind was one of several new mobile carriers launched in Canada in 2008 after a government initiative to encourage competition in the wireless sector alongside Mobilicity(later acquired by Rogers Communications) and Public Mobile (later acquired by Telus). With 940,000 active subscribers, Wind is Canada’s fourth-largest mobile operator. Wind initially launched mobile data and voice services in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, Ontario on December 16, 2009 and two days later in Calgary, Alberta. Manitoba Telecom Services is the publicly traded holding company; It currently has one operating subsidiary; MTS Inc. MTS is the descendant company of Manitoba Government Telephones which went into operation in January 1908 after the government of Manitoba bought Bell Canada’s Manitoba operations. The Crown corporation became Manitoba Telephone System in 1921, and eventually absorbed all private telephone operations in the province. In 1996, the Provincial government of Premier Gary Filmon decided to sell the Manitoba Telephone System to private shareholders.
