Gadgets are great until they stop working and for some reason, they always seem to stop working when the warranty has just run out. Most manufacturers won’t consider helping if the warranty has expired so consumers often purchase pricey extended warranty protection. Since there have been few times where we could have used an extended warranty, we opted to not get it when we purchased a color printer a couple years ago. My husband and I figured that for the cost of an extended warranty, buying a new printer would be far cheaper. At the time, we didn’t think about the inconvenience of having it stop working in the middle of printing out color photos for a school project.

Mid-project, our printer stopped printing pictures for my daughter’s second grade timeline project. Only a few of her required ten photos had printed. Perhaps the ink was out. Maybe there was a problem with the flash drive they were on. Is it possible that we didn’t load the rest on to the flash drive? After some troubleshooting to determine it wasn’t user error, we found the manual for some additional troubleshooting. No luck.

How typical that our color printer would stop working mid-project! We racked our brains to remember exactly when we got the printer. We figured we hadn’t had it very long- less than a year. Surely it should still work especially since we didn’t use it that often.

Out of his magic filing cabinet, my husband extracted our receipt for the printer and the warranty. As luck would have it, we had had our printer for exactly 366 days—one year and one day. The extra day made our warranty no longer valid.

While you never expect things to stop working, it’s always reassuring to have a great warranty behind any product you purchase. I’m so appreciative of companies like Rayovac where they provide a Device Guarantee and a Flashlight Warranty for their products with the Rayovac Guarantee. Rayovac’s warranty policies are clearly outlined on their website and include the address of where to ship defective products for replacement.

Rayovac takes their guarantee seriously. With a long history of providing quality products to consumers, they don’t want us to worry about the lack of a warranty if a quality issue arises. I love that they provide provide customers with quality products that they fully back with the Rayovac Guarantee. This demonstrates their true commitment to creating quality products and reassurance that I’m making a wise investment when choosing their batteries and household goods to use in our home.

I only wish that dealing with our non-working printer had been so easy! After pulling the receipt from the filing cabinet and going through the company’s automated system for customer support, we finally got to talk to a real person about the phone. Explaining that our printer was just a day over warranty, the company offered to send us a new one at no charge. In the end, we were fortunate to receive a new printer but this experience made we wish that products came with a better guarantee.

Isn’t too bad that not all companies stand solidly behind their products like Rayovac does to provide the best protection for our most important tech devices?
