It’s our second weekly roundup this year with the best new Android apps and games. If somehow you missed the previous one, I strongly suggest you to check it out, since there are so many games that you have probably been waiting for. Now let’s have a look at the current selection where we have a good mix of games and apps, with the most prominent ones being the brand new Microsoft Office releases.
Microsoft Word (Free)
The official Microsoft Word app for Android tablets has finally landed on the Play Store and it’s available for free. It will work only ony Android tablet with a screen size of 7 inches or larger that run at least KitKat. Users can edit documents and have the formatting maintained across all devices – PC, Mac, tablet and phone. The rich formatting includes fonts, pictures, tables, textboxes, shapes, footnotes, page layout and much more. You can also review documents, view email attachments and access Word documents from OneDrive, Dropbox, OneDrive for Business, or SharePoint and also print Word documents.
Microsoft Excel (Free)
The Microsoft Excel app lands on Android with the same requirements as Word and PowerPoint, which means it’s also free. You can use the Excel spreadsheets on your tablet to work with formulas, tables, charts, comments, PivotTables, sparklines, conditional formatting and much more. Just as the other two apps, you can also view email attachments and print Excel worksheets. The app maintains the familiar navigation and menu options and there’s no keyboard required, just in case you were wondering.
Microsoft PowerPoint (Free)
Microsoft PowerPoint lands on Android tablets with the familiar Office look and feel revamped in a new intuitive touch experience. The app allows to create PowerPoint presentations by using images, embedded video, tables, charts, SmartArt, transitions, animations and other tools such as the built-in laser pointer, pens or highlighters. You can also pick up from where you left off, as your content and formatting is maintained across all your devices.
Dead Trigger 2 (Free)
If you like to kill some time by shooting zombies on your Android tablet or smartphone, then Dead Trigger 2 is one of the best candidates for this. Players get to travel across 10 regions in different parts of the world where they will explore 33 unique environments. There are 37 kinds of weapons you can choose from more than 600 gameplay scenarios to keep the fun from stopping. The game comes with impressive graphics and there’s also the option of using a dedicated game controller.
N.O.V.A. 3: Freedom Edition (Free)
Gameloft’s latest game for Android players, N.O.V.A. 3: Freedom Edition, lands on the Play Store with a promise to be one of the most immersive and impressive sci-fi FPS games. The game follows an epic storyline where humanity finally returns to Earth after years of exile. Users will fight in 10 immersive levels across the galaxy, from a war-torn Earth to a frozen Volterite city. There are multiple weapons and powers to choose from and you can also join 12-player battles in 7 multiplayer modes.
Tekken Card Tournament (Free)
Bandai Namoc’s new Tekken Card Tournament game for Android users is described as a ‘brutal, tactical beatemup world of Tekken’. And with so many fans all over the world, it’s no wonder that the game has already become an instant hit. Play the game and join over 8 million players from around the globe in the first ever free-to-play Tekken beatemup CCG. Besides the online multiplayer mode, there’s also a solo campaign where you have at your disposal 50 unique challenges to test your skill and tactical judgement.
Agatha Christie: 4:50 ($3.99)
I don’t know about you, but when I was younger, I enjoyed a lot reading books by Agatha Christie and the Sherlock Holmes series by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. If you too shared this passion, then you’ll definitely enjoy this new Android game, called Agatha Christie: 4:50, which is a reference to the 4.50 from Paddington detective fiction novel. The game features impressive graphics and 48 levels in 11 ‘cliff-hanging’ chapters. Agatha Christie: 4:50 from Paddington is the Anroid version of a successful, multi-award winning PC game series.
NHL Hockey Target Smash (Free)
If you are a hockey fan and you’d like to practice your shooting on your Android smartphone or tablet, then you need to give NHL Hockey Target Smash a try. The game comes with all 30 NHL teams and 60 uniforms and you can enjoy an endless season, playoffs, and the Stanley Cup Final game modes. Other features include pick-up and play flick shooting controls, the ability to create your own character, choose a team, name, number, and more. You will also be able to unlock custom sticks, pucks, and item bundles.
Adobe Lightroom Mobile (Free)
The official Adobe Lightroom mobile app for Android users is finally here, serving as a companion app to Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5. The app lets you edit raw files from DSLR cameras using Smart Previews, edit images from your Android phone’s Gallery, enhance images using familiar Lightroom tools and presets, import photos from your Gallery and quickly flag and reject photos. You can also automatically sync photo edits, metadata, and collection info with Lightroom 5 on your desktop and all your Lightroom-enabled devices.
EFF Alerts (Free)
By using the official app of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, you will support an organization which fights for your rights in the digital age. The EFF Alerts app notifies you when there’s a new action you can take to support EFF such as calling or emailing the U.S. Congress to help advocate for better technology laws, tweeting at the White House to ask for better policies or just helping get the word out about a specific project or campaign EFF is running.
