We are in midst of the Apple’s yearly release cycle with new versions of the iPad and iPad mini scheduled to be announced tomorrow. With iPad mini gaining huge popularity, we expect the second version of the 8″ tablet to bolster the sales of iOS devices, which should in turn spruce up the number of apps in the App store.
Over the past week, we came across some interesting new additions to the Apple App store, which includes a fitness app which utilizes the M7 co-processor in iPhone 5s, couple of photography apps, a nice travel app and quite a few games. Check them out below.
Fitly (Free)
Here comes one of the first apps to utilize the awesome M7 co-processor which is part of the iPhone 5s hardware. Fitly makes use of the M7 co-processor to count the number of steps you take every day, and make fitness a lot more fun. It can know if you’re walking or running, and it promptly records all your steps, walks, jogs—even on a treadmill!
Clipcam (Freemium)
We are seeing a surge in ‘wannabe Vine apps’ these days, and the latest addition is Clipcam, which removes the 6-second video restriction, while retaining the feature to rearrange clips which made Vine so popular. If you are ready to pay $0.99, you’ll get access to live filters which can be applied to your videos before sharing them with your friends.
Microsoft Remote Desktop (Free)
Alongside Windows 8.1, Microsoft launched the Remote Desktop app for iOS last week, bringing the Windows desktop to iPhones and iPads. As the name implies, it lets you remotely & securely connect to your Windows desktop from wherever you are. Very handy if you are a business user.
Seene (Free)
Seene is the app which went viral the past week, with users and bloggers going gaga over this unique app. Seene records an image from four different angles in order to generate its 3D images. It’s not easy to get the recording right, but the end-results are impressive enough to go through the learning curve. It provides a nice parallax effect made popular by iOS 7.
DEVICE 6 ($3.99)
Not sure why some apps like to spell themselves in capital letters, but DEVICE 6 is an inventive, engrossing and interactive narrative which blends puzzle and novella, to draw players into an intriguing mystery of technology and neuroscience. It’s compatible with all devices (iPhones, iPads and iPod touch) running iOS 5.1 and above.
Lonely Planet Fast Talk Phrasebook (Freemium)
Lonely Planet has been a very useful resource on the web for people who like to travel a lot. Now, here’s an app from them to quickly find useful phrases and their translations in five languages: French, German, Italian, Latin American Spanish and European Spanish. Though the app is free to download, each of the language packs costs $2.99 and can be purchased in-app.
Marvel Creativity Studio (Free)
The best thing about iPad and iOS ecosystem is the presence of highly useful apps for kids. Marvel Creativity Studio is one such app which helps your kids to learn to draw, color and animate their favorite Marvel heroes and villains from Avengers Assemble, The Ultimate Spider-Man and Hulk and the Agents of Smash! Much recommended app if you have kids around in the household.
Batman: Arkham Origins (Freemium)
The latest game from the Warner Bros. is Batman: Arkham Origins, which is a nice superhero game which lets you face-off against a slew of ruthless assassins and their thugs. It comes with simple and intuitive controls, 15+ batsuits, cross control unlocks and more. It’s an universal app compatible across phones and tablets.
Machinarium Pocket Edition ($1.99)
It’s quite unusual to see so many games in our weekly roundup of best apps, isn’t it? Well, games like Machinarium Pocket Edition are worth their places in this list. It has been available on iPad for a while, but the developers have worked hard to bring it to iPhone as well with features like pinch-to-zoom feature, achievements and more.
Weather Line ($2.99)
No, you aren’t alone who feels like yawning when you hear about a new weather app on the App store. But Weather Line deserves a peek for being beautiful, informative and fast, with its nice iOS 7 interface. The data is powered by forecast.io and comes with features like Monthly Averages, Rain Prediction, Humidity and many more.
