On unveiling LG G2, Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of  the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company said;

“Our definition of innovation today is technology that truly resonates with consumers. We have always listened to and learned from consumers in pursuit of innovation. We took these insights to new heights in developing LG G2, the most exciting and ambitious mobile phone in our company’s history.”

The LG G2 features 5.2-inch full-HD edge-to-edge display which is claimed to provide one-handed operation. LG has used its own Dual Routing technology which reduces the bezel to 2.65mm. The display is having IPS technology to provide better color reproduction with decent viewing angles. LG has partnered with Qualcomm to provide Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset underneath with 2.26GHz quad-core Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU. The smartphone has Graphic RAM (GRAM) technology for energy efficiency which is claimed to reduce the display power by up to 26 percent.

LG has made a unique concept with providing volume rocker on the rear which compresses of a shutter key as well. The LG G2 is the first smartphone with no key at the either sides, instead there is a key set at the rear itself. Using the Rear Key concept, users can adjust the volume while attending the call and even take self shots using the shutter key at the center of the volume rocker. Long-pressing the rear keys launches QuickMemo and on the most interesting part, users can power on the smartphone just by double-tapping on the screen. The new tapping feature to power on/off the smartphone is known as KnockON. Of course the rear key is the only physical key available on the LG G2.

On the imaging part, the LG G2 has a 13-megapixel camera sensor on the rear with Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) technology. The camera is having Super Resolution and Multi-point AF which makes it closer to the point-and-shoot cameras. A 2.1-megapixel camera sensor is available on the front with VoIP and video calling support.

For connectivity, the LG G2 has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, A-GPS, NFC and a microUSB port. For enhanced multimedia support, the smartphone has studio quality 24 bit/192kHz Hi-Fi playback, of course Vienna Boys’ Choir music is available out of the box.

On the software part, the LG G2 comes with Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) operating system with an all new Practical UX interface on the top. The interface is having some features for the real-life experience. The interface has Answer Me which detects when the phone is nearer to the user’s ear, automatically decreases the ring volume and answers the call without using any input. There is Slide Aside which provides multitasking by simply ‘sliding’ open apps off to the side using a three-finger swipe. The smartphone also has Guest Mode to protect the user security and contents from the guests and provides access to the phone with a secondary unlock pattern. Besides, there is Plug & Pop, Text Link and QuickRemote as some features within the new interface.

The LG G2 packs with a 3000mAh battery which is claimed to provide a backup of more than a day against heavy usage. The smartphone will be available in two color options as White and Black. As far the availability is concerned, the LG G2 will start rolling out with 130 wireless carriers in the next eight weeks starting in South Korea followed by North America, Europe and other key markets. So far there is no word on the availability of the LG G2 in India. We’ll of course cover more after getting an exact release schedule for the Indian region.
