BlackBerry Q5 hands on preview

Smartphone manufacturers were initially focusing on the elders, the one who were rich enough to purchase smartphones which were not in the reach of a common man. But now the time is changed along with things are now changing in the same direction. Now youth segment of the society is the main focus for the big smartphone manufacturers. After Android in the hands of youth, now BlackBerry has tried to persuade the youth with its all new BlackBerry Q5. The BlackBerry Q5 is a smartphone centrally designed for youth with bright colors and BlackBerry 10 integration. BlackBerry officially launched the BlackBerry Q5 smartphone in the Indian market today and we have got a chance to play with the new youth focused BlackBerry Q5 for some minutes. The smartphone is soon coming to the stores but in the meanwhile, we have covered a small preview. So let’s take a look at the BlackBerry Q5 from our eyes.

BlackBerry Q5

The BlackBerry Q5 has a 3.1-inch IPS LCD display with 720 x 720 pixels (HD) resolution. The smartphone front is somehow identical to early BlackBerry smartphones as there is a full QWERTY keyboard below the display. The keys underneath the keyboard are high-end with comfortable typing experience. Similar to the BlackBerry Q10, the youth-centric BlackBerry Q5 has multitouch support with capacitive sensor. Above the display, there is an earpiece at the top-center and a secondary 2-megapixel camera sensor is at the either side of the earpiece.

At the bottom, there is a loudspeaker grill and a pinhole microphone. However, the grill is placed at a similar position, as earlier found on the BlackBerry Z10 and the Q10 but this time, there is a plastic covering rather than aluminium.

Overall, the designing pattern of the BlackBerry Q5 is identical to the earlier launched BlackBerry Q10 but in order to cut the cost, the company has now used whole-plastic designing instead of mixture of aluminium and plastic. However, the plastic used in the BlackBerry Q5 is high-grade but still the smartphone does not feel like a premium smartphone with plastic design. In the BlackBerry Q5, the volume rocker and the rear cover is also made up of plastic and on the plus point, the smartphone comes in three colors as Black, White and Red.

On the hardware part, the smartphone has a dual-core 1.2GHz processor with 2GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage along with microSD card slot. In terms of connectivity, there is Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, A-GPS, NFC and a microUSB port. The smartphone supports GSM, HSPA+ and 4G LTE (FDD) networks with built-in frequency bands. The smartphone packs with a removable 2180mAh battery which is claimed to provide up to 14 days of standby time on a 3G network.

Our hands on BlackBerry Q5!

With the input of BlackBerry 10 operating system, we are quite sure that the smartphone would not have any lag in operations and hiccup in usual performance. As far we have tested some BlackBerry 10 smartphones at our labs, the operating system is also fine to provide an efficient battery life. But a question is still cooking up in one mind that why the Indian youth will attract towards the BlackBerry Q5 over some Android smartphones with large display in the same price tag? It’s answer is simple, the one who just want BlackBerry flavour in a cheaper price tag with all the latest features of BlackBerry 10 operating system, the newly launched BlackBerry Q5 is the best smartphone to pick. Still it is tough to assume the overall sales of the smartphone in the Indian market but the new step taken by BlackBerry to make its smartphone debut in a mid-range segment will be welcomed in India. We need to test the smartphone for a long span to come up with a conclusion and for this, we’ll soon cover more in our in-depth review, so stay tuned.
