Square Enix has released a demo for the offbeat action-RPG NieR: Automata on the PlayStation 4. It’s available right now for free.

Square Enix described exactly what the demo offers in a press release. Here’s the official word:

Starting today, fans can experience the machine-ruled dystopia of action-RPG NieR: Automata, as SQUARE ENIX® released a playable demo through the PlayStation®Store for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system. Available now as a free download, the demo transports players to an abandoned factory, following android 2B’s mission to destroy a massive enemy weapon that lies within.

Having no real connection to the series’ cult roots, I’m personally excited for the game because of the developer involved. Japanese action game developer Platinum Games is bringing this one to life, and I absolutely love their take on the genre. So, here I am.

You got your Final Fantasy XV Engine Blade in my NieR: Automata!

This effort from Square Enix, of course, wouldn’t be complete without a little bit of a crossover nod to two of their most successful Japanese franchises from 2016. I’m talking about Final Fantasy, of course, and Dragon Quest.

That’s right! The trailer at the base of this post shows off the Engine Blade from Final Fantasy XV and the gloriously mundane Cypress Stick from Dragon Quest in action in NieR: Automata

I’m downloading the demo as a type, friends. How about you?
