The Nintendo Switch scooped up yet another major name in the video game industry this past weekend, and that is the support of Epic Games and its widely used gaming engine, Unreal Engine 4.

The Unreal Engine’s official Twitter page confirmed the news.

We're thrilled to partner with Nintendo to help Unreal Engine 4 developers bring their games to Nintendo Switch! https://t.co/MWL29xhb90

As seen above, fans already use the engine to recreate some of Nintendo’s most popular titles, but this is the first we’ve heard of Unreal’s support for the upcoming Nintendo Switch. Or is it?

Some of us already knew this was coming

Those following news of the Nintendo Switch closely already saw this announcement coming a mile away. How so? Well, one of the first games confirmed for release on the Nintendo Switch is employing Unreal Engine 4, and the game can’t come to the console if it doesn’t support the engine.

Which game am I talking about? Well…

That’s right! Dragon Quest XI, also coming to the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 4, will be developed using the Unreal Engine 4 for its higher-end versions. Thanks a lot to Dragon Quest XI for spoiling this little surprise long ago!

The Nintendo Switch will be released in March 2017, but we have no official release date for Dragon Quest XI. Many believe that it will be out next spring because Square Enix wants the game to be playable during its 30th anniversary, which is… right now!
