2015-09-12

It was a fairly quiet week, only interrupted by a few juicy rumors. Of course, when Apple holds an event, it’s difficult to get a word in edge wise. But, by and large, a lot of the reports we saw this week were a little too wild and crazy to run.

That being said, we did some good content, such as the first trailer for Marvel’s Jessica Jones, and more details about the main villain in Captain America: Civil War. There was even a report that claimed Warner Bros. wants to create a shared monster universe, culminating in a battle between Godzilla and King Kong. Awesome!

We’re in a kind of box office lull at the moment, but we should start seeing some big trailers soon. We’re expecting one final trailer for The Force Awakens, while it’s likely we’ll also get one for Civil War. We also know one is coming for Warcraft and probably even X-Men: Apocalypse.

Mads Mikkelsen’s Rogue One character

While he prepares for his villain role in Doctor Strange, Mads Mikkelsen is apparently going to play an important role in Star Wars: Rogue One. Just who might that be? Well, Mikkelsen recently autographed a poster on a promotional tour, and the actor made sure to sign the name “Galen” under it. The character name is best known for appearing in The Force Unleashed. Apocalypse looks different

People were not happy with the way Oscar Isaac’s Apocalypse looked in X-Men: Apocalypse promotional images. Some fans even hilariously called out his resemblance to the Power Rangers baddie Ivan Ooze. A recently leaked photo, however, appears to show that dear old Apocalypse has undergone a minor transformation, making him appear much more menacing. Definitely much better than the purple monster he appeared to be in earlier images. [X-Men: News]

Transformer 5 headed to space

As Paramount aligns Transformers into a huge universe of sequels and spinoffs, it sounds like the studio’s immediate plans are to send Optimus Prime to space. The details are pretty sketchy, but it sounds like filmmakers want to take the famous Autbot to the Quintessons, which are god-like entities who created the Autobots and Decepticons. [ScreenCrush]

Rebecca Ferguson as Captain Marvel

Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation was pretty great, no? Tom Cruise ran a lot. There were cool gadgets. And stealing the show was Rebecca Ferguson, a relative newcomer to the Hollywood scene. Apparently her performance was so great that folks over at Disney want her to play Captain Marvel. How’s that for a meteoric rise? [HeroicHollywood]

New Spectre TV spot

Action, mystery, explosions. All in a day’s work for Daniel Craig’s James Bond. At this point we already know we want to see Spectre, so we’re just waiting for the movie to come out.

Hilarious new Deadpool image

Ryan Reynolds this week shared a new image from the set of Deadpool, showing the Merc with a Mouth attempting to “connect” by reading a Judy Blume novel. Based on the trailer, Deadpool is going to be as faithful a recreation of the character as we’ve seen. The movie hits theaters on Feb. 12, 2016.

Star Wars: Episode VIII filming

Earlier this week, an Entertainment Weekly article claimed that reshoots for Star Wars: The Force Awakens were going to take place in Ireland. But Lucasfilm flatout said that isn’t true. Instead, it’s where filming for Episode VIII is going to take place later this month, which means we can probably expect to see the usual dose of set leaks fairly soon. [EW]

Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet

When Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was announced, Marvel actually showed off a short teaser that ended with a shot of Thanos in possession of a completed Infinity Gauntlet. The same teaser is apparently part of the Age of Ultron DVD and Blu-ray release, giving us the gem you see above.
