We’re not forgetting that since Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia it has released several Lumia Windows 10 smartphones, but the Surface Phone would be a completely new phone that adopts the Surface brand name and could sit alongside Lumia phones rather than replace them.
Update 31 August 2016: There has been a number of sites reporting that the Surface Phone will make its debut at IFA 2016. We don’t believe it for a second (and have heard nothing about a Microsoft IFA press event), but that is the word on the technology grapevine.

Since the first Surface Phone rumour hit the web the suggested release date has always been sometime in 2016. We’re now getting ever closer to the end of the year, which may be what’s behind the recent rumours that the Surface Phone will be unveiled at IFA 2016, which takes place over the next few days.
We’re not at all convinced, and think it far more likely that – should the Surface Phone even exist – it will be unveiled at a Microsoft event in October alongside the new Surface Pro 5.

Rumours about the Surface Phone have been pretty few and far between so far, but there’s no doubt that many analysts and tech watchers are growing more and more convinced that such device is in the works, particularly thanks to one particular alleged leak from WMPowerUser.
