We’re likely still several months away from meeting Google’s next Pixel smartphones, but today some new details about the devices have trickled out.
Google’s two new Pixel phones are reportedly codenamed Walleye and Muskie. The former has appeared in the Android Open Source Project, and you can see it for yourself in the window in the upper left corner of the image below.
While the name Muskie hasn’t yet appeared in AOSP, and may never appear there, the folks at Android Police learned about the name from the same source that provided the name Walleye. Today’s report also says that the Walleye and Muskie phones will likely be similar to the Pixel and Pixel XL in that there will be one smaller phone and one larger one.
Past Pixel and Nexus phones have used fishy codenames, like Shamu for the Nexus 6 and Marlin for the Pixel XL, so it’s no surprise to hear that that’ll continue with this year’s Pixel phones.
Google itself has confirmed that a Pixel 2 is coming this year, but it hasn’t shared any other details about the upcoming hardware. The rumor mill hasn’t been as silent, though, with one report suggesting that Google’s next Pixel phones will have a focus on low-light photography and that better water resistance may be included, too.
