Gmail for Android is getting a nifty new feature starting today.
Google has announced that the Gmail for Android app now supports sending and receiving money. Sending and receiving is fee-free, and you can set it up so that money will go directly into your bank account if you’d like.
To send money in Gmail, simply tap the attachment button when composing a message and select “Send money”. You can then type in the amount that you’d like to send and add a memo if you’d like. Then just hit “Done”, send your email, and you’re finished.
Gmail users have been able to send money on the desktop for awhile now, but it’s good to finally see the feature coming to Android, too. It seems to make even more sense for the feature to be on phones than on desktops, as you can use it to quickly send your friend some cash for your portion of dinner or something else.
Unfortunately for iOS users, Google hasn’t said when or if the Gmail app for iOS will support sending money. If you’ve got an Android phone, though, you should be able to start sending cash soon if you don’t already have the feature.
