The LYF F1s packs a very capable hardware for its price, but how does it compare with its competitors? We find out

Reliance Digital recently expanded its budget smartphone portfolio by adding a new member to its LYF-series. Called F1s, it is an affordable variant of the LYF F1 Plus smartphone that was recently launched. Sporting a metal frame, unibody design, and 2.5D curved glass on top, the smartphone is equipped with good hardware on board. At its price point, the LYF F1s will compete with the likes of Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3 and Lenovo’s recently launched K6 Power smartphones. We pitted all three smartphones based on their price, specifications and features, and here’s how they fare.

Price and availability: The LYF F1s is priced at Rs 9,599 and can be purchased from Reliance Digital and Digital Xpress Mini outlets. Reliance is also offering Rs 500 as cashback on making payment using Jio Money wallet app. Along with the smartphone, you also get Reliance Jio connection with ‘Happy New year’ offer with free unlimited local and national voice and video calls, unlimited SMS and unlimited high-speed 4G data (cap of 1GB per day). Users also get access to Jio suite of apps.

The Redmi Note 3 is offered in two variants – the one with 2GB RAM priced at Rs 9,999, and 3GB RAM variant priced at Rs 11,999. It can be purchased from Amazon India, Flipkart or Mi.com/in. The Lenovo K6 Power, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 9,999 and available to purchase from Flipkart. ALSO READ: Lenovo K6 Power Review

Display: The LYF F1s flaunts a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080p) display with pixel density of 423ppi and a 2.5D curved glass on top. The panel is powered by InCell technology, which the company claims to offer lower battery consumption. The K6 Power houses a 5-inch full-HD (1080p) display whereas the Redmi Note 3 is equipped with a slightly larger 5.5-inch full HD display.

Processor, RAM and storage: The LYF F1s is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 652 octa-core chipset (four Cortex A53 cores + four Cortex A72 cores). It is accompanied by an Adreno 510 GPU, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. A microSD card slot with support up to 128GB is also present. The K6 Power is powered by Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 430 octa-core SoC (eight Cortex A53 cores), paired with Adreno 505 GPU, 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage, whereas the Redmi Note 3 is powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 650 hexa-core SoC (two Cortex A72 cores and four Cortex A53 cores), paired with Adreno 510 GPU. It is offered in two variants – 2GB RAM + 16GB storage, and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage.

Cameras: In the photography department, the LYF F1s and Redmi Note 3 feature a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual tone LED flash, and a 5-megapixel selfie snapper. The rear camera of LYF F1s includes 4K video recording support, whereas the selfie snapper comes with an LED flash. The Lenovo K6 Power features a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and full HD video recording capabilities, and a slightly larger resolution, 8-megapixel selfie camera.

Battery and connectivity: To keep things ticking, the LYF F1s is fuelled by a 3,100mAh battery, the K6 Power is armed with a 4,000mAh battery, whereas the Redmi Note 3 is equipped with a slightly larger 4,050mAh battery. In terms of connectivity, all smartphones feature dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE with VoLTE HD voice calling support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. The LYF F1s also comes with the latest USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer.

Operating system: In the software department, all smartphones run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. The Redmi Note 3 comes with MIUI 8 interface running on top, whereas the LYF F1s and Lenovo K6 Power features an interface closer to stock.

On paper, purely going by specifications, the LYF F1s looks like a strong contender. We have reviewed the Redmi Note 3 and the Lenovo K6 Power smartphones, and both turned out to be among the best budget smartphone options. However, in case of the LYF F1s, we will reserve our judgment until we review the device.
